eBay Buzz: Kawhi Leonard, legendary ink, George Springer, Triple Threads arrives and David Ross' best baseball card

HE LOVES L.A. AFTER GAME ONE
The Item: Kawhi Leonard 2012-13 Panini Immaculate Collection rookie patch auto (/100)
The Price: $2,999 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: What do you collect when a star has bounced around and arrives in a new home, scoring 30 points in his new team debut against their rival? Well, I don't know as I'm firmly priced out on the big cards in basketball these (but I do have a clean NBA Hoops RC headed into a slab soon and I'll dig that) but my gut says that his hottest cards soon will be his first Clippers cards more than his Raptors or Spurs stuff. But, with that not here yet, the best bets would be to bargain hunt among the rookie patch autos from his rookie season like this one. There could be cheaper ones for sure, but there are also a ton of pricier ones with National Treasures cards in slabs going into five-figures. There's no doubt that Leonard is a talent and here's hoping the past weirdness settles down and he's a Clipper for some time with success ... that would justify the big-money prices for his cards and justify even more gains for sure. He's already got championships with two teams and there are expectations for more. Game 1 against LeBron and his Lakers seemed to start off on a big note, which might fuel expectations and interest here even more if his team continues playing as it did last night.

JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! OH, WAIT ...
The Item: George Springer 2014 Topps Chrome Black Refractor auto (/100)
The Price: $275 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one isn't here just so I could make a Jerry Springer joke about that autograph -- he had a pretty solid game in the World Series opener, too. His autograph, though, is worth examining as he's been all over the place in terms of sig quality since he first arrived on cards in 2010 with USA Baseball before his first MLB prospect cards in 2011 and Rookie Cards in 2014. He signed a ton of cards since those early ones -- more than 1,500 different unique cards -- and his autograph has been all over the place from a GS with some squiggles and his number in between to a GS pretty much on its own. The good news with all of his ink is that he's got plenty -- you can hunt and find cards far cheaper than this if you want his auto -- but I did like how this one had a lot more to it. He seemed to have signed a lot more in his early years but his totals year by year is stronger than I thought -- perhaps it's just lower in volume now that he's going for his second World Series ring.

NEW CUBS MANAGER'S BEST CARD?
The Item: David Ross 2016 Topps Now Gold auto (1/1) (PSA 10)
The Price: $22,500 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: First off, there's no way this price gets met unless there's a deep-pocketed Superfan out there who must have it all and doesn't care how much it costs. It appears that Ross is set to become the next manager of the Chicago Cubs, following in the big footsteps of Joe Maddon who was his manager when he won a World Series ring as a player back in 2016. This veteran appeared on fewer than 50 autographed cards as part of a 15-year career. He had just six autographs before the Cubs' historic run in 2016. This is one of two 1/1 cards Ross signed for Topps Now and I'd argue it's easily his most-important card, too. On a budget, I'd look for his only autographed Rookie Card from 2002 SPx -- there were 825 of those made -- or his 2004 USA Baseball 25th Anniversary ink, which should be more affordable, too. I would not overpay -- and the prices are high right now based on what I see at the link below.

FRESH OUTTA THE BOX ...
The Item: Dansby Swanson 2019 Topps Triple Threads Sapphire Autograph Relics (/3)
The Price: $23.09 after five bids (six days remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Triple Threads arrived today and there are plenty of possibilities to be found in the boxes of this brand which has been around since 2006. This is just one example of the early stuff that's already hit eBay and it will be one to watch in general in the coming days and weeks. There will be big things found, especially with this year's loaded rookie class and some of the high-end stuff in this one and the design also looks to be continuing upon last year's which I thought was one of the best in the history of the brand.

BIG FINISH
The Item: Kobe Bryant, Charles Barkley & Reggie Miller 2018-19 Panini Immaculate Collection triple auto (/10) 
The Price: $5,999 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a legendary piece of cardboard and it's crazy to think that there are 10 of them out there with these three Hall of Famers (Kobe's obviously a lock) all in one spot. The price is hefty but perhaps not by NBA high-end card standards where rookies can top this with ease. Cards like this one are far safer high-end buys than the rookies and two of these guys hadn't signed a ton in the past before some recent runs.
