ANNUAL ARRIVALS
The Item: Jerry Jeudy 2020 Panini Playbook Vault booklet (/10)
The Price: $163.50 after 23 bids (four days remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a perfect example of some of the big stuff coming out of boxes of this brand this year. Playbook is a line where you typically get some kind of booklet in every box -- one per this year -- and I can say I've window-shopped this one hard through the years. (I've never been focused enough on any one player to commit and chase something like this, though.) Once the initial flood of cards like this hits eBay they will get a lot tougher to find for a lot of guys -- maybe not the biggest names with the biggest dollar signs -- and that's why watching what arrives right now can be important. NOT JUST BECKHAM
The Item: Cristiano Ronaldo 2020 Panini Immaculate Collection Modern Marks Auto (/10)
The Price: $4,999.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand is the home for the first new Panini autographs for soccer legend David Beckham but it's also got plenty more to be found inside those colorful containers. So far, this is one of the bigger autos to drop -- at least from cards still for sale on eBay -- and it's not a shabby pull at all. A tip for those who might brush off soccer ... don't assume there's not potential value (or gains) with stuff if it doesn't interest you. If anything, you can rip and flip the sports you don't have a lot of sentimental ties with to fund buys of things you've always wanted. Soccer is somewhat safer in this regard as there's a global audience looking for the stuff that's coming out of premium brands like this.

SWEET SPOT DELUXE
The Item: Mike Trout 2020 Topps Tribute Milestone Relics Autograph 1/1
The Price: $9,500 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This kind of a card is way more impressive than some Superfractor Rookie Card auto to me and when it's got the best (and well-established) player in the game on it that's even better. This one certainly isn't cheap but it's got the perfect balance of design and showcases and impressive piece of a game-used ball with the MLB Authentication sticker to prove it -- and there aren't a ton of sets that go there like this with a big and bold 100-percent game-used piece. The swatch is from a foul ball on May 4, 2019, against Astros pitcher Hector Rondon who had him on a 1-1 count in the seventh inning of a 14-2 Houston win before 18,177 fans at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in the 2019 Mexico Series. Trout struck out two pitches later.

WHOOPS, THERE IT IS ... A VARIATION
The Item: Luis Robert 2020 Topps Heritage High Number error variation
The Price: $699.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is an intentional variation error card missing the "White Sox" from across the top of the card -- a pull that's one in 2,516 packs. Is this a big card? Well, it's one of the bigger cards in a small set and a popular brand ... and the variations are worth the chase with big names attached. Why? Long-term interest from master set builders who missed out on them at arrival. (Plus, he's a key rookie.) I have a box incoming at some point soon but I have to say I haven't seen this release in hand just yet to see how it feels. I do know, though, I bought a lot less Heritage this past year than in those before it -- even if this design is better than its immediate predecessor -- and it still delivered better ink than I've seen in a long time. Go figure. The Rookie Card checklist wasn't the biggest deal in this one so it also makes me think the 2021 (1972) set could be stronger than people initially might have expected.

A LOW-END CHASE ...
The Item: Baby Yoda (aka The Child, Grogu) 2020 Topps Star Wars 3D (approximately 720 made)
The Price: $75 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This guy is in big demand overall and this card from this Topps On Demand release is clearly on the rarer side of things for more standard (un-numered) stuff in the Star Wars Galaxy and it's newest big (little) merchandising machine. This brand seems to be very popular for those building sets -- this eBay dealer has sold a bunch -- and that's partly because you only get eight cards per box. It's a challenge to chase them down out of packs so people are going the singles route for that they need. The unique look and feel of these could be a popular one in the future just like they have been for baseball, too. This price may seem high but my quick search indicated people have been paying more for this one. (And some SP variations of him from standard releases also have sold for more than this.)
