LOOK AT THAT INK!
The Item: Wander Franco 2022 Topps Postseason Autographs (/50)
The Price: $3,500 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This guy's cardboard is leading the way right now in terms of the chatter, the hype, the dollar signs ... all of it. Part of that is speculators wanting in on the big MLB talent for sure, but his play last year and his new big, long-term contract all help justify the interest. Why does this one lead off here? Well, it's not his flashiest, priciest or even best card ... but in this case the sticker is perfect. His auto has a lot of loops to it and others I have seen have all been running off of it ... even on better cards. (Is this one the norm? I don't know -- I didn't look too closely at everything out there -- but keeping all the ink on the sticker should matter. (Or a better way to say it, a bad sticker can hurt.) Keep that in mind if you're dabbling to slab here. If you're ripping packs, keep in mind that jumbos have ink every time ... so, realistically, you have a better shot at Franco ink there. Ink is also in hobby -- but not every box.

GOT IT COVERED ...
The Item:
Joe Burrow Sports Illustrated Dec. 2, 2019 issue -- first cover appearance -- CGC 9.2
The Price: $995 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
High-grade copies of magazines can be a lot harder to find than cards, so the dollar amounts can be surprising, too, if you're not following them. It's a whole different world of grading -- and a 9.2 realistically can be topped three times with two more literally almost impossible marks above those -- but it seems to be growing in with submissions and buyer interest. Newer guys' debut covers can sometimes be obscure, harder-to-find mags while others are just harder to find in grade-able form. The diehards prefer no mailing labels -- that's the way to go in most instances as they are a fraction of overall print runs -- but big names on older issues could be appealing with those pesky name stickers attached if you ask me. Had the Bengals won the Super Bowl, this one might be priced higher (or gone from eBay). SI and Playboy seem to be the two magazine franchises most-heavily graded as they were, historically speaking, more collected than others ... but CGC will grade magazines of all types within some obscenity rules and obvious slab size limits. Buzz will be slabbing mags this year for sure -- I already am, actually, but they are backed up like other services. You'll see more of these here, though I like pop culture stuff a little more than the traditional SI staple appearances.

STAYING IN SEATTLE
The Item: Sue Bird 2005 Rittenhouse WNBA Autographs (uniform pose variation)
The Price: $149.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There are a number of 2000s women's sports stars who don't have a ton of autographs and are likely overlooked yet will go down as greats in the history of their games and she's one of them. Her list of awards and honors is meaty and her stats are impressive after 19 years in the WNBA and as of today she's signed on for one more season with the team she's only ever known in the league, the Seattle Storm, where she's been since being the No. 1 pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft. She's appeared in a number of sets over the years -- WNBA past and present, Olympic and elsewhere -- but what I didn't realize until, well, today, is that the ones I pulled were among her first signed cards. She had five signed cards in this first release -- one shared with Lauren Jackson, one with the WNBA trophy, this one, another in-uni pose and then another in casual clothes. I ripped into these boxes a few times back in the day because the checklists were strong, the ink flowed and they were so cheap. Now? Finding boxes ain't easy ... and people are paying attention to the top names' top cards. This one seemed under-priced vs. others so that's why it's here -- and it's way cheaper than new Prizm stuff, too. I need to dig mine out and see if they are worth getting graded ... because she, and others playing today, are a big deal.

NOT JUST ROOKIES ...
The Item:
Sandy Koufax 2021 Panini Chronicles Origins Silver-ink Autographs (/25)
The Price: $699 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card popped up on a search for this brand as a reminder to me -- and maybe others -- that this brand isn't just one about a bunch of new Rookie Cards in many designs. This one also includes some serious gems like this. Sure, there's no "B" or "LA" on that cap, but otherwise this is a card that would look like many others out there from any maker in recent years. In short, it's solid so it makes this list this time.

A TRENDING AREA?
The Item:
Asuka, Paige & Kairi Sane 2019 WWE promotional photo
The Price: $99.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Why did I go there with this one? Well, the news out of Japan today is that Kairi Sane (aka Kairi Hojo there) is returning to the ring with the Japanese promotion known as Stardom where she was a past star before her recent run in WWE. That's what got me looking. But a bigger nugget here is that prices on original promo photos (the ones with white borders and copyrights with numbered coding ... or this style) like these used for signing appearances or promotional events seem to be picking up. This is an image from 2019 and these newer-style images (sometimes from throughout the 2010s) are not as plentiful as a previous generation's worth of bordered on all sides (card-like, really) images out there (See those in link below.) In recent years WWE has cut down on image use like these for signings with branded photos in some instances or generic autograph placemats provided to fans in many instances. In short, they may not be doing these as much since it's more of a digital world every day. (One caution with dabbling here? Reprints ... small text will look fuzzy on those and they can often be used for signings elsewhere in the industry.) Older images like these are collectibles on their own without autos while I think in some cases new ones like this also may have potential.
