eBay Buzz Weekly Update: Supergirl's ink, Patrick Mahomes scorchers, a Transcendent classic, lobby cards & Pistol Pete

If not, you just might see some of those here every week as we're launching a weekly version of our eBay Buzz pieces that pop up from time to time. We’ll spotlight some items that have a story or just wow us with how much interest it might have — and we’re not just talking baseball cards, either.

A SUPER SELLER SO FAR
The Item: 2018 Cryptozoic Supergirl Season 1 Melissa Benoist autograph (Supergirl version)
The Price: $480 after 11 bids with five-plus days remaining
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This latest arrival and the first for The CW series has a number of autographs to watch but none are bigger than those signed by Supergirl herself -- and Melissa Benoist actually has at least three different cards for collectors to look for. So far, three of her autos have sold for $999.50 or more on eBay and her rare dual-wardrobe cards found in this one -- what looks like one blue suit swatch and one red cape swatch -- also has pushed $800. This one is a live auction so it should be interesting to see how this one ends. The other big sales have been Buy-It-Now or Best Offer sales -- and the asking prices are higher than $1,000 for the active auctions right now

A PIECE OF 'PISTOL PETE'
The Item: Pete Maravich autographed basketball with painted portrait
The Price: $5,750 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This Hall of Famer would have probably ended up there without ever having set foot on an NBA court. His legendary career at LSU is the visual focus here and it's a reminder of years that won't be topped and haven't been topped in all of the years since he last set foot on the floor for the Tigers. He averaged 44.2 points per game for 83 games and he remains the NCAA's career scoring leader with 3,667 points. This was all before the three-pointer and he only was allowed to play three seasons as freshman weren't yet eligible to play. The Atlanta Hawks drafted him third in the 1970 NBA Draft and he played 10 seasons in the NBA and was inducted into the Hall in 1987. He died less than a year later due to a heart attack at age 40. His autographs aren't easy (or cheap) finds compared to other stars of his era, so this ball is a premium item. (Its light sig is perhaps one reason why the painting was added -- but it's still a nice item in its overall feel.)

A COLLECTING ALTERNATIVE?
The Item: Set of eight The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) lobby cards
The Price: $65 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one is an admitted oddball pick but it's because of one simple thought -- why hasn't there been some type of pop culture repack product tried using past movie lobby cards and publicity photos from press kits? These relics of the past won't be coming heavily in the future -- everything is digital now when it comes to movie promotion -- and yet you can find iconic pieces from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s in relatively affordable fashion. (Though business has picked up a lot in the last decade -- stuff was cheaper then.) There are so many past franchises with memorable characters and actors out there -- all it might take is a few autographs here and there in the mix or some vintage gems to spark a ripping frenzy. Lobby cards for big-time franchises or cult classics from the early years of Hollywood are definite auction items, too. (Check out the link below.) Beyond the repack thought, there's a lot to collect in this realm and it's largely undocumented in terms of what's out there and what you might find. To me, that translates into fun potential.

NFL'S NEW PHENOM?
The Item: 2017 Panini National Treasures Stars & Stripes Patrick Mahomes II Rookie Patch Auto (/13)
The Price: $10,000 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Forget the fact that he's played just three NFL games, the hunt is on for the best of the best cardboard for the Kansas City Chiefs rookie who's scorching opposing defenses this season. Check eBay's completed auctions and you'll see more than 30 sales at more than $2,000 in recent times and active auctions (check that link below) have even loftier asking prices beyond even the one attached to this one in particular.

TIME FOR MORE TRANSCENDENT
The Item: 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection Cy Young cut autograph (1/1)
The Price: $8,500 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: We got our first look at the latest edition of Topps' biggest high-end release, Transcendent Collection, this week and there are a number of past gems you can find while window shopping on eBay. This is one of them and, believe it or not, it's not the only Young cut from the brand on the auction site. This MLB legend is slated to be in there again this year so you can go for the sweep and grab both of them before the third drops later this year -- pre-orders are live if you're not window shopping, so hit the Blowout Hunt link below.
