eBay Buzz Weekly Update: Ted Williams, Aaron Rodgers' ink, The Sandlot's stars, not-gem Precious Metal Gems & more

A HIGH-GRADE RARITY
The Item: 1959 Fleer Ted Williams #68 Ted Signs for 1959 SP (PSA 9)
The Price: $2,500 Buy-It-Now 
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Today would have been Ted Williams' 100th birthday and this card is by far the rarest one from a unique and collectable set that examines his life away from the game as well as highlights up to that time. He signed a $5,000 per year deal to only appear on Fleer cards but this one was pulled for some type of contractural reason. Meanwhile, ironically, if you check the PSA pop report this card is the most-graded of any card in the set. (Likely since it's the most-valuable and others are all readily available.) Just 43 copies of this card have graded a PSA 9 -- and fakes exist, meaning you should buy one graded --  and none have graded higher.

The Item: 1997-98 Metel Universe Precious Metal Gems PMG Red Allen Iverson /100 (BGS 8)
The Price: $3,050 after 40 bids with four-plus days remaining
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: These sets are among the most-popular from a range of NBA releases from the era that can command big bucks for big names no matter what the condition. This one affirms that with some heavy chipping on the edges and even possibly on the logo that still hasn't scared off bidders. How high will it go? We'll find out soon.

A WNBA FIRST
The Item: 1997 Pinnacle WNBA master set
The Price: $999.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The Houston Comets won the first WNBA championship today back in 1997 and this auction is for everything that was on WNBA cardboard that first year when, oddly, WNBA cards came packed into cans like a few other Pinnacle releases. The base set is 81 cards, then there are 81 Executive Collection parallels (one per 48-can case), 81 Court Collection parallels, a My Town insert set and a Team Development set. In my book, this one needs all 17 different cans (unopened) but it's complete besides that. The price might be a tad high since there are no certified autographs -- those arrived with Fleer WNBA sets a few years later -- but it might not be easy to replicate this one without some luck (and a can opener). With just one WNBA set a year, there's not as much cardboard out there for fans and you can see there's interest with high-grade copies of key cards and autos for big names as well as sealed boxes from recent years.

A FEW MILLION REASONS NOT TO SIGN ...
The Item: 2005 Playoff Contenders Rookie Ticket Autograph Aaron Rodgers
The Price: $750 after 10 bids with four-plus days remaining
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Aaron Rodgers' new $134-million contract -- $80 million coming soon -- is a big reason why you'll need to get in on owning an Aaron Rodgers autograph or two if you don't have one and still want one. Why? He won't need the money -- well, he probably didn't before -- to sign autographs, so I'd bet a few bucks that he won't be signing as much in the future. His earliest autos are mostly all available on eBay via Buy-It-Nows with some seriously steep prices, but this one was one of only a couple that were up as active auctions. (Yes that bottom edge has an issue but this card looks pretty clean otherwise.)

A SANDLOT RARITY
The Item: 2018 Topps Archives The Sandlot Blue Autographs Wendy Peffercorn (Marley Shelton) /25
The Price: $250 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Topps' cards for the stars of The Sandlot have been strong sellers and just a small portion of the autographs' print run has been unearthed so far as the hobby boxes of this one won't arrive until late October. (Why? Topps is waiting on autographs of some notables only found in the hobby run.) There have been some big sales for cards in this one and this one seems underpriced for its rarity. (I just wish Shelton had a better autograph.)
