Fast Five: Cheaper 2020 Topps Heritage cards Buzz will chase

This one is a quick idea for a new department here on The Buzz ... Fast Five -- a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's something to think about.

This time? The big release of the week ... 2020 Topps Heritage

SUPER, MAN
The Card: 2020 Topps Heritage 1971 Topps Super Bo Bichette 
These oversized 1971 Topps Super cards are box-toppers that are not found in every box but I kind of wish they were. It's a simple 15-card set that's more postcard-size but uses all of that space and some tight crops to emphasize the photographs chosen for a mix of current stars. Just two rookies made the cut here -- Bo Bichette and Yordan Alvarez -- and I'm going with Bichette of the two this year. Meanwhile, there are a number of notables in this set on the checklist. I'm not the biggest fan of the facsimile auto that was part of the original design (Topps needs to thin out the pen strokes on any and all facsimiles used if you ask me while also scaling them down to be well-placed "accents") but the good news is that that those vanish for the players who have certified autos from this set. Those are far tougher pulls and were only made for five players. No Bo, though. (Bummer.)

BREAK ON THROUGH ...
The Set: 2020 Topps Heritage News Flashbacks
I'll probably grab a number of the cards from this long-running but affordable insert set that recaps notable occurrences from the year of the original emulated release -- in this case, 1971. This 15-card set includes a number of pop culture nods as well as some news headlines and these three are among the interesting ones. I'm not much of a Starbucks fan -- it has a card for its arrival (Rookie Card?) -- but the Jim Morrison card appearance got me to look and the other two cards you see for All In The Family and Gene Wilder as Willie Wonka with some Oompa Loompas also on the card figure to be affordable classics. I haven't seen any Heritage in-hand just yet -- I should have a Buzz Break here soon -- but there are a couple on the checklist I might even consider grading if the production is clean. (If you're a regular reader you probably know the niche that pops up in my Making The Grade series.)

DOUBLE THE DEMAND
The Card: 2020 Topps Heritage Yordan Alvarez & Aristides Aquino RC
On the checklist, this card looks to be a biggie as it pairs two of the hardest-hitting rookies of the crop this year, Yordan Alvarez and Aristides Aquino, onto a shared Rookie Card. Their action variations where they are found solo will, of course, steal some of its thunder (they are far rarer but not impossible finds) but this one is a solid card ... that could be a bummer if you do any group breaks for this release. Also a plus will be all of its parallels -- cards that will be in demand, too. Some people loathe multi-player RCs but I've always liked them -- though some designs are stronger than others from the past. (I'm not as big on some 1971 cards ... some work, some don't.)

RETAIL OPTION
The Card: 2020 Topps Heritage 1971 Bazooka Numbered Test Cards Ronald Acuña Jr. 
These 1971 Bazooka Numbered Test Cards are a retail-only inclusion with 25 cards out there to chase on the checklist. They aren't that flashy but they are better than the past Bazooka mini strip-style cards that were a pain to handle and could be found mangled in packs as smaller cards can also be tougher to control in the packaging process. There are some solid names to be found here but also a number of lesser-tier young stars, too. That could help the values for the best names since others around them on the checklist makes the bigs a little tougher to pull. (They won't be impossible to find, of course.) These are simple but different and that makes me think they might stand out a little among everything in this one over time.

YOUNG RELICS
The Card: 2020 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection Relics of rookies/young stars
Heritage always delivers a pretty deep roster of Relics, but my gut feeling is that this year Topps did a pretty good job emphasizing some of the younger stars in MLB by getting them into the Clubhouse Collection checklist. This pick isn't necessarily for Aquino directly but I liked the look of this card -- they should really pop out of the packs filled with black-bordered cards. He's one of three rookies in the set -- Bichette and Alvarez the others -- but there are also a number of others who should impress when they are found.
