Fast Five: Options Buzz is considering in the here and now

This one is a quick idea for a new department here on The Buzz ... Fast Five -- a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's something to think about.

This time? Five things I might be looking for right now ...

DRAFT-DAY DRAMA PICK-UPS
Here's a spoiler for tonight's NFL Draft ... no matter where Tua Tagovailoa lands -- good or bad, high pick or low pick -- I'm going to be buying something on the affordable side. Why? I don't have an NFL team and I'm not sure I really want one -- my fantasy team is fine for that -- and my seasonal collecting football habit will be satisfied by stuff like what's found in 2020 Panini Prizm Draft Picks where he's on the box yet I'm 0-for-the-year finding him in any form. I don't really have any needs for the guys not in the uniforms that match his in this release, but tonight we'll find out where all of those other guys go and their new fans will start chasing what options they have for cardboard right now. It could be warmer than usual considering that there will inevitably be delays the rest of the year in some form or fashion ...whether it's just the cardboard in the short-term or the play, which is a possibility, getting pushed later into the fall. I have my team and my players I'll be looking for -- and it's a good-looking year for football cards across the board no matter where guys end up.

SUPPLIES
You know what I really need right now, have run out of and is harder to find right now out in the retail wild than toilet paper, hand sanitizer and pork chops? Top-loaders -- and other supplies too. Awhile back, I looked at one of the manufacturers' sites and noticed that a number of options -- card necessities we don't often think about -- are delayed from them until late June ... and that has a realistic chance of delaying even further as a lot of their stuff is made elsewhere and imported. Cards are made here ... so the delays could actually be longer for supplies once a sense of "normalcy" to some degree returns.

A BOX TO REST THE NERVES
The ongoing quest for 2020 Bowman 1st Edition is still probably ongoing out there right now ... but, if not, Day 3 is tomorrow. I did something to set my mind a tad at ease today rather than fight the reload fight and watch spinning wheels even though I did finally make it a little further today than yesterday. I just simply closed the window -- it was just causing too much cardboard angst for me. Did it work? Did it not? Will it crash? Reload? It crashed ... try again? Did it charge me or not? (I generally don't let cardboard get me angry unlike many out there and everybody knows the hobby -- in many directions, including even retail -- has a bot problem.) Instead, I've started scouting the baseball section here to grab something else instead (for now). Those new packs aren't even going out until May (a couple weeks) ... so I'll probably still open one or two here. Maybe. Once I finish up this piece -- or, by the time you're reading this, I'll be popping some stuff in a cart (along with some supplies) to post here next week.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
The Bargain Breaks section is one where I do a lot of looking to dabble with things that I might not otherwise. It's always good, from time to time, to dabble where others might not be and where you might not normally. Why? Some stuff that's red-hot now won't be later -- and stuff that's definitely not a scorcher now could be over time once tastes and attention of buyers meanders and boxes are nowhere to be found. It often happens. Buying in cheap bulk also makes for fun ripping and perhaps better pay-offs if you beat the odds and find something unique. The item above is one of my candidates to hit a cart here soon. I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet.

SOME MEMORABILIA
Want to keep it simple? At times I do and boxes that are blind-packaged memorabilia or signed photos are one way to simplify. You don't need to worry about odds, pack formats, which color parallel appears in which version or which player might or might not appear on a checklist. Instead you know what you're getting -- just not who. There are a number of companies that sell blind-wrapped signed jerseys, balls, helmets and more and sometimes there are some really good finds. Here are three recently added Fanatics options, for example. I might go a slightly different route -- perhaps some Star Wars -- but this pick is all about keeping it simple. That applies in either galaxy.
