Finding Hayden Hurst's first certified autos won't be easy

If you're a South Carolina Gamecocks fan, then you might know his story -- but if you're a fan of his potential new NFL team tonight or later this week you might not.

And it also matters a lot if you want Hayden Hurst's first cards.

The former Gamecocks tight end already has more than 130 different football cards between all of the NFL draft products that have been arriving this spring but none of them can call "dibs" on being first.

His earliest cards are nearly a decade old as he made his cardboard debut nearly a decade ago as a member of the USA Baseball 16U National Team. Making that squad meant he appears on seven cards in the 2010 USA Baseball box set -- a basic card, a pair of memorabilia cards and four autographs. His most-plentiful auto is limited to 149 copies while the rest are even more limited at 35, 25 and two serial-numbered copies.

Prospectors won't find him on any other baseball cards despite him being a draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 17th round five years ago. He quit after two seasons to try football and in three seasons he had 100 catches for 1,281 yards and three touchdowns. He's been projected by some to be a potential first-round pick tonight but also more likely by others to be picked in the coming days.
