First Buzz: 2017 Topps Series 1 baseball cards

Box basics: One autograph or Relic per 36-pack box (12 boxes per case); One autograph and two Relics per 10-pack jumbo box (six boxes per case)

What's buzz-worthy: The newest edition of the Topps baseball brand -- the flagship brand for the hobby -- arrives with a modern look and plenty of new looks that break away from some of the formulas from recent years.

The Basics: The basic set will consist of 350 cards with each card having 11 parallels -- Gold (/2,017), Rainbow foil, Vintage (/99), Black (/66), Mother's Day Hot Pink (/50), Father's Day Powder Blue (/50), Memorial Day Camo (/25), Clear (/10), Negative, Platinum (1/1) and printing plates. ... New for 2017 will be Topps Salute (a look at specialty games and uniforms), Bowman Then & Now, 1987 Topps Baseball inserts and Five Tool inserts. First Pitch also will return.

On the autographed Relic front there are Topps Reverence Patches, which are a high-end looking card, along with Major League Materials that will have Red and 1/1 Platinum parallels. There also will be Postseason Performance Auto Relics and World Series Champion Auto Relics. These also will have Red and Platinum parallels.

2017-Topps-Baseball-noah On the autograph front, there will be Topps Salute, World Series Champs and Postseason Performance autos. Each will have Red and 1/1 Platinum cards. A 1987 Topps autograph set will have a mix of sticker and on-card sigs with a Maple parallel (seen above) as well as a 1/1 Birch version. There also will be 1/1 cut autographs.

For Relics, there are Major League Materials, World Series Champions, Postseason Performances and In The Name 1/1 letter patch cards. All but the 1/1 letters will have Red and 1/1 Platinum parallels.
