What's buzz-worthy: Contenders Optic takes the court for the first time with plenty of color, some rare inclusions and plenty of big names from this year's rookie crop as well as looks at stars from the past and present.

The Basics: These boxes will include two parallels and two inserts -- or insert parallels -- atop the ink and there will be on-card autos for top rookies from this year's class. There also will be variations. Parallels were not detailed but Panini teased Gold Vinyl and Gold for the rookies. Veteran Ticket autos will not be on-card but will have past and present guys as well as their own rainbow of parallels. Joining them will be Up and Coming Contenders autos as well as rare Tribute autos using past Contenders design from 1998, 2003 and 2007 and their top rookies. Atop that? A 1981 Donruss Tribute. ... Insert sets will include Hall of Fame Contenders, Superstar Diecuts and Playing The Numbers Game for starters with their own parallel rainbows and joining them will be Historic MVPs, Historic Rookies of the Year and Class Acts. ... Boxes carry a suggested retail price of $100.
