What's buzz-worthy: Collectors can turn back the clock to 1969 for a second time this year with the arrival of Heritage High Number, which continues with the what's-old-is-new-again tradition that began back in 2001.

The Basics: The basic set will once again consist of 200 standard cards and 25 more cards being short-prints. There will be hot new rookies such as Shohei Ohtani and traded veterans, too. Parallels this time will again include a couple of new touches -- a 100th Anniversary parallel with a foil stamp of the MLB anniversary logo used that year (limited to only 25 copies) and Magenta backs limited to only 10 copies. There also will be a black-border parallel limited to 50 and flip stocks are back, too, and are limited to only five copies per card. There also will be Mini versions limited to just 100 copies. ... There will be a number of variations and parallels to be found in this one. This time around there will be error card short-prints, trade variations, throwback uniforms, action images (hobby-only), team name color swaps (hobby-only) and a new dose of nicknames. Meanwhile, some cards from base set will have Chrome parallels with a rainbow that includes Refractor (/569), Black Refractor (/69), Gold Refractor (/5) and Superfractor (1/1) along with Hot Box Refractors for both hobby and blaster boxes.

Autographed Relics will include Clubhouse Collection cards (/25) with 1/1 Patch parallels as well as dual autos with past and present pairings for the same team with those limited to 10 with a Patch parallel. Real One Autographs also return for another year with on-card ink and Red (/69) parallels and new for this series will be Amazin' Mets autos (/69) for that World Series-winning team. Also new will be Reggie Jackson Highlights autos limited to five copies per card. ... The standard insert lineup should be familiar to long-time collectors -- Rookie Performers, Now & Then, Combo Cards, Award Winners -- along with another batch of 1969 Topps Deckle Edge inserts and new here will be Reggie Jackson Highlights an Miracle of '69 cards. Rounding things out as usual will be more stamped buyback box-toppers and three-card ad panels.

Update (retail details): There will only be 35-card hanger packs (eight per tray) and eight-pack blaster boxes (16 per case) for this release with the only retail-exclusive cards being another selection of 1969 Topps Bazooka All-Time Greats, which will be limited to 250 copies per card.

Update (variation details): There are now variation types noted alongside card numbers on card backs for certain types. There are trade, error, nickname, color swaps, throwback uniforms and action image variations. A number of them have been added to the gallery below and we'll add more as they pop up in the coming days.
