What's buzz-worthy: The second series of the newest edition of the Topps baseball brand -- the flagship brand for the hobby -- will arrive with a wave of energy and full-bleed feel that further breaks from the traditional feel for the brand that's been around for 67 consecutive seasons.

The Basics: The basic set will consist of 350 cards with each card having 12 parallels -- Gold (/2,018), Rainbow foil, Vintage (/99), Independence Day (/76), Black (/67), Mother's Day Pink (/50), Father's Day Powder Blue (/50), Memorial Day Camo (/25), Clear (/10), Negative, Platinum (1/1) and printing plates. ... Topps Salute inserts will take on a few subjects once again -- Legends, Throwback Uniforms, Rookies, Notable At-bats and Fieldwork -- with each having Blue, Black (/299), Gold (/50), Red (/10) and 1/1 Platinum parallels. Also on the insert front will be Instant Impact Superstar Sensations with the same parallel rainbow along with Longball Legends and a 1983 Topps insert set. Each also will ave the same rainbow and volume for parallels.

On the autographed Relic side, there are Topps Reverence Autograph Patches with Gold (/5) and 1/1 Platinum versions, while Major League Materials will have Red (/25) and Platinum parallels. Longball Legends and Instant Impact auto Relics also will be paralleled the same ways (/25, /1). For autographs only, the Topps Salute cards will be found with ink as will 1983 All-Stars and Rookies. These, too, will have Red and Platinum versions. The 1983 autos will have more versions -- Black (/99), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and 1/1 Platinum -- atop the regular versions. There also will be 1/1 sketch cards in this release.

The Relic-only lineup will include Instant Impact Relics and Longball Legends as well as 1/1 Own the Name Relics -- all numbered with Red and Platinum versions save for the Name cards. There also will be Major League Material Relics most-commonly found with Black (/99), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and 1/1 Platinum cards. The others will have Reds and Platinums. Manufactured Relics will include Team MVP Medallions with Gold (/50), Red (/10) 1/1 Platinum and autographs (/10) and the same lineup will be found for MLB All-Star Logo Patch cards.

Update: Silver packs also will be back -- one per hobby box, two per jumbo. These cards will carts a 1983 Topps design and have foilboard stock. There also will be autographs and parallels to be found, too. ... On the retail front there will be Legends in the Making inserts for 30 players with Blue, Black, Gold (/50), Red (/10), Platinum (1/1) and autographs (/10 max). In blaster boxes there will be Future Stars inserts (50 cards) each with auto parallels (/10 max) as well as Independence Day flag patches with Gold (/99), Blue (/50), Red (/25), Platinum (1/1) and auto versions (/10 max). ... As for retail pack formats there will be 36-card grocery packs, 10-pack blaster boxes, 72-card hanger packs, 36-card jumbo packs, gravity boxes with 36 12-card packs and 24-pack display boxes.

Update (Feb. 7): The annual factory set will arrive on July 4 and based on the box, you can expect to find Shohei Ohtani cards in Series 2. Each set will include a pack of five serial-numbered parallel cards atop of the 700 cards in both series.
