First Buzz: 2020 Topps XFL football cards

What's buzz-worthy: Full details are still to come, but it looks like the new version of the XFL will return to Topps for its cardboard this coming season -- just like it had for the inaugural campaign in 2001.

The Basics: With the new league's season set to begin in February, the cardboard should come just after that time, too, and there will be a 200-card set with a number of parallels for every card. It will include players as well as coaches and it will include Green (/99), Purple (/50), Blue (/25), Red (/10), Black (/5) and 1/1 Gold cards. There will also be Stars of The XFL insert cards to chase (one in six packs) with Blue, Red, Black and Gold parallels at the same volume. ... Autographs will be signed on-card for this one with Blue, Red, Black and Gold parallels -- again same volume. ... We'll add more info to this one once it's available.

Ugh. Why does Topps insist on endless parallels and 1/1s ??? Especially for an alternative league, it should be reasonably possible to complete a master set. So they took the bloated formula that they used for their 2019 AAF checklist, and made it even more humanly impossible to collect. Once again, I will not buy any overpriced cases or boxes of these since there is no attainable goal to reach. They should've used their 2001 XFL checklist as a guideline. I'm not sure who Topps thinks will be their customer base for these. Most of those infinite parallel cards will probably never see the light of day.
