First Buzz: 2021-22 Donruss Optic basketball cards

What's buzz-worthy: Optic hits the court with the familiar format of last year but with the new rookies all in one spot with plenty of parallels and color for each of them, too.

The Basics: There will be 20 insert or parallel cards per box atop of the auto and the base in this one just like last year. Rated Rookie autographs will be signed on-card and there will be a number of parallels to look for with hobby-only finds that will include Holo, Blue (/49), Gold (/10), Green (/5) and 1/1 Gold Vinyl parallels. The 200-card base set's parallels will include short-printed Photon parallels as well as Orange (/199), Lime Green (/149), Red (/99), Pink Velocity (/79), Blue (/59), Black Velocity (/39), Gold (/10), Green (/5) and 1/1 Gold Vinyl cards there. (Fifty of those cards are rookies.) ... Among the inserts will be Elite Dominators, All-Stars, The Rookies, Lights Out, Star Gazing and Raining Threes for starters. Parallels on that front were not detailed in advance. ... Boxes will carry a suggested retail price of $250 ($12.50 per four-card pack).

Update (Aug. 4): There will be four-pack H2 boxes for this release (20 boxes per case) with two Holo Prizms, eight exclusive Prizms and two inserts per box. Exclusives can include Red Pulsar, Blue Pulsar and Gold Pulsar (/10). Rated Rookie autos are possible in Red Pulsar, Blue Pulsar and Gold Pulsar (/10) parallels but are not guaranteed per box.

Update (Aug. 11): There also will he Fast Break boxes for this one with 10 nine-card packs per box (20 per case) and each box including one autograph and 18 inserts or parallel cards. Packs will carry a suggested retail price of $19.50 ($195 per box).
