First Buzz: 2023 Panini Plates & Patches football cards

What's buzz-worthy: Plates & Patches returns with some new inclusions for NFL collectors to chase with metal-stock insert cards taking the place of printing plates.

The Basics: There will be one base card and one parallel or insert per box along with the hits. The base set will consist of 158 cards -- a mix of veterans and retired greats -- with parallels printed on metal among a number of looks. See the gallery for the full breakdown there. A total of 42 rookies will round out the basics to 200 cards with Lava Drip (/7) parallels only found for these players. ... Among the hits will be Mettle Moments and Steel Signatures and rookies will also have silver-inked Lava Drip cards there, too. Joining them will be Rookie Patch Autos, Full Coverage autos that have an acetate overlay atop memorabilia pieces. Also in play will be Rookie Upper Echelon, Rookie Reflections and Double Coverage cards. ... New inserts will include American Metal and Nuclear cards falling one per case together. ... Boxes carry a suggested retail price of $130. Note: Rookies in mocks seen here are last year's players.
