First Buzz: SportKings Volume 1 sports cards (updated)

What's buzz-worthy: SportKings returns to the sports card landscape from SAGE with a new crop of legendary figures in its base set, plenty of hits and plenty of history.

The Basics: There will be 48 cards in the base set in this one with just 100 copies of each card made. Boxes will include just two base cards, one mini parallel (/50), one bonus card and then two on-card autos (some auto-mem) with 1/1 parallels possible and then four memorabilia cards with one of those typically being a patch card. Those also will have parallels. Bonus cards can be Spectacular Patches (all 1/1s including nameplate letters with full names used), art cards from Jared Kelley, Century Heroes cut autos, Diamond Heroes cuts, Icons cuts, original art for making the base cards by Paul Madden and original graded 1933 Goudey cards.

Update (Oct. 19): SportKings will be found for this run with eight-pack blaster boxes ($19.99 suggested retail price). Seven packs will include three base cards and one mini, while the eighth pack will include one from the following:

-- game-worn memorabilia card (with autographs and parallels possible)
-- autographed cards (with parallels)
-- 1/1 Grand Patch cards
-- jumbo game-used patch cards
-- triple game-used patch cards
-- Jared Kelly hand-painted art card
-- Century Heroes or Diamond Heroes 1/1 cut auto sketch cards
-- SportKings Icons cut autos
-- original Paul Madden artwork used for base cards
-- original 1933 SportKings cards
