Earlier this year, Topps offered up a new way to explore Topps Now cards -- with rewards at season's end.
We're near that end, so some of the cards found in the five-card 2019 Topps Now Future packs are ready to explode -- and by that Buzz means either in price or with their rewards that come with either a World Series title or an award-winner on the front of your card.
Sure, some cards just aren't going to get it done now -- sorry all Braves and Dodgers World Series card-holders and sorry all Shohei Ohtani MVP award-winner cards -- but others like this Aaron Judge card and others might be good ones to chase right now ... or are already absolute locks to win anything from a Chromed team set, a rarer parallel set or an autograph of the player shown.
Pete Alonso and the National League Rookie of the Year award? He's a lock -- mark it down -- and the owners of the cards like this one out of Award-winner packs will get an autographed card limited to only 99 copies -- and that's assuming that all 99 are even found and redeemed. (This particular card sold for $150 on eBay.)
How much potential is there in these simple packs? Check out these eBay auctions -- a little all over the place -- but then switch over to completeds. There are more than 30 sales for over $100 for single cards among them -- and it's not like the parallels or ink in these packs are impossible pulls -- keep reading.
The Award-winners, which have autographed odds at one in less than seven packs, will yield a 10-card Chrome Topps Now set highlighting that player's season with parallels limited to 199, 99, 49, 25, 10, five and one copy in that mix. Autographs will be on-card and numbered to 199, 99, 49, 25, 10, five and one copy. Click here to view that checklist.
World Series winner cards will be good for a Chrome Topps Now team set (20 cards) with parallel versions limited to 199, 99, 49, 25, 10, five, and one copy in that mix. Autographs in that one will be numbered to 50, 25, 10, five and one copy. Click here to view the World Series checklist.
One thing to consider with these cards if you land a clearly "future-less" card like, say, the Kansas City Royals winning the World Series or Yasiel Puig winning the NL MVP award but there's a rare parallel attached as the prize. There should not be more than that many copies of a card available ... and it actually could be less than that. For the World Series cards, the prize is likely spread across all of the cards for a particular team in the set instead of just one player.
Could those rare lower cards be sleepers in the future? Maybe -- after all, there are a lot of Topps Now buyers out there -- and there is a limited number of packs made for this on-demand release, too. There also could be demand for winner cards that go unscratched in the future, too, once the relatively quick deadline for submissions (Dec. 31 of this year) has passed. That short deadline also makes me think that unredeemed autos might not be signed once it's time to do so, making all of the autographed cards rarer than announced.
