G.I. Joe Package Art Portfolio Set revisits what many threw out

Knowing is half the battle -- and knowing about this one could be important to quite a few people out there.

Arriving next week from IDW Publishing is a new artwork collection focusing on the 1980s G.I. Joe toys -- but perhaps not something many of us saved.

It's a collection of the artwork from the packaging.

The G.I. Joe Package Art Portfolio Set consists of several 11-by-17 prints of past artwork released with the popular Hasbro toys. The original wave of toys included more than 500 different figures and a couple-hundred vehicles/sets in the decade-plus run that began in the early 1980s.

However, just 10 pieces make the cut for this collection.

This one uses scans from original pieces in the Hasbro vault and is sold out via the IDW website, meaning the only way to find them will be out in the wild once they arrive. The collection carries a suggested retail price of $39.99 and arrives in comic shops on March 13.

The original G.I. Joe dolls arrived in 1964 but returned in 1982 as a series of 3.75-inch articulated plastic action figures. It's an empire that has spawned comic books, books, cartoons and a pair of films -- with more on the way.
