Is Ronald Acuña Jr.'s 2018 Topps Holiday Rookie Card the next big scorcher? (Spoiler: It might be getting there already ... )

If you've been shut out or just can't grab 2018 Topps Update boxes at this point, there is an alternative option for wax that has a pretty good shot at landing a key card of a key rookie who's looking to do some big things the rest of this season and likely for years in Atlanta.

He's Ronald Acuña Jr. and the box is the 2018 Topps Holiday Box where he's one of the RCs to grab that's -- for now -- pretty easy to land and can deliver big once you get it slabbed.

And there's also a parallel and hit versions for him to chase, too.

It's a small set so his basic card should be found in roughly every other box. Then there's a Metallic Snowflake parallel that's a pretty tough (but not impossible) pull and then there's a 1/1 Gold version of the parallel. Atop that, there are autographs -- a standard auto, then a Metallic Snowflake auto (/10), a 1/1 Gold version of the auto and then the same trio for an autographed Relic card. For that one, the easiest version is limited to only 10 copies, with three copies for the Metallic parallel and its 1/1 to round it out.

With this being a heavy-run product at the time -- one made just for Walmart to have on hand in volume for holiday shoppers -- there's a good chance that some of those autos are still out there in boxes. The box prices are far lower than you might expect since they haven't dried up yet, but that's likely to happen as people shut out on Update continue to look for their next rookie-year piece of the next member of the 30-30 Club who has an eye on 40-40 and plenty more ... maybe even this year.

The Acuña card in this set is growing in popularity, especially when slabbed, and its eBay completed prices for parallels can surprise you. It's not quite Topps Update or the Series 2 SSP but it looks just like them but with the better image and a frosty feel in its design -- just not in its prices.

I actually had a Ronald Acuna Jr. Autograph 10 of 10 baseball card that had the snowflakes and I had to sell it because of Coronavirus closing down my job.
