Chrome has been a collecting staple for years but when it comes to the most-popular color of late you might argue that it's Sapphire -- and that has meant green for some.

A limited release the last four years first as factory sets and then premium boxes, Topps Chrome Sapphire has continued to evolve in its format yet still deliver big blue parallels of already in-demand cards. And Sapphire releases also include their own parallel rainbows and, of course, autographs.

Asking prices on key singles over on eBay are sometimes nutty yet often many times realistic as there's definitely a limited supply for the cards from this brand. This year's edition sold out via Topps in only a few minutes.

This year's version arrived recently with the smallest and most-available format -- a 32-card box but with an autograph guaranteed in every box for an original price of just $50. Last year's was more of a premium box at $200 for 100 cards and three autographs. These formats were ways of letting collectors chase cards from the set at a more affordable price compared to the previous releases. The first two years were full factory sets limited to just 250 copies per card -- and a much steeper price -- along with five autos and a pile of parallels that included a pair of Superfractors in every box.

The 2016 set has a number of perhaps-overlooked rookies like Corey Seager and Gary Sanchez, while 2017 is the home of Aaron Judge, Andrew Benintendi and Alex Bregman among others. Last year's set has plenty to chase beyond Ronald Acuña Jr., and you should remember those guys pretty well -- Shohei Ohtani and Gleyber Torres, for starters. Meanwhile, key veterans can be pricey cards here, too, since they aren't exactly available at any neighborhood shop or show -- check out the prices on these Mike Trout cards.

Last year's Ronald Acuña Jr. card seems to be the iconic card that most eBay buyers are latching onto with that one dominating among the completed sales. This year's release is still working its way into the secondary market but there are a number of key guys with cards and ink who could rival that one if the market's buyers focus their attention more and the small supply available continues to vanish.
