Jackson Holliday Fun Face chase heats up 2024 Topps Series 2

Jackson Holliday may not be in The Show at the moment, but his new cardboard is already getting looks.

A series of short-printed variations in 2024 Topps Series 2 -- which officially arrived today (get your boxes here) -- includes the top prospect on a card that's an homage to one of the most-controversial baseball cards of all time, the 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken card that had an obscenity written on his bat knob.

So far, there are six versions of the homage card to chase along with a traditional action photo version that isn't all about the controversial card from 35 years ago.

: White-out version

: White-circle version

: Black-box version

: Saw-cut Fun-Face version

There are at least these versions to chase (so far) for Holliday and all are odes to the several variations of the Ripken card that were made as Fleer struggled to get the card fixed only after it had been spotted in collectors' hands.

How rare are these? If/when Topps officially confirms any details here, they'll be added. The asking prices on eBay are predictably high.

Update (June 14): Also in the mix are Saw Cut versions where that is noted on the card back with the number ... but so far those are showing up without a cut. In 1989, Fleer literally notched the printing sheets with a saw where Ripken's card was (on a bottom row) so they could be pulled from the stacks and not put into packs.
