Luis Severino's red-hot season heats up his cardboard

It might be easy to overlook the New York Yankees pitching staff with all those young sluggers and other big boppers in the Bronx, but there's one arm clearly establishing himself this summer as he's in the midst of a career year and should have dominating season totals by year's end.

It's Luis Severino.

The 24-year-old right-hander is 13-2 with a 1.98 ERA this season -- tops in the American League and nearly the best in MLB right now -- and he's got 138 strikeouts in 118 innings atop that. His next victory will tie his career-high set last season and he's by far the top arm on the team -- Masahiro Tanaka is second with just seven victories this year.

And all this success should bode well for his cardboard, which can still be found with relative ease.

Severino shouldn't be a surprise to collectors as he was an All-Star last season and he's already got more than 2,100 different cards despite just four seasons in New York. Of those? He's already topped the 800-autograph mark with more likely to come this summer.

His first cards can be found in 2014 releases -- Bowman Draft, Bowman Sterling, Elite Extra Edition, Leaf Metal Draft, Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks and Leaf Valiant -- and his ink is in nearly all of them, though his first Chrome auto was in 2015 Bowman Chrome. His list of ink in that year's releases is just as meaty with appearances in Bowman Inception, National Treasures, Contenders, Heritage Minor League, Diamond Kings, Prizm, Elite Extra Edition, Bowman's Best, Bowman and Immaculate Collection.

His Rookie Cards? They're in 2016 releases across the board -- Bowman, Bowman Chrome. Bowman Platinum, Bowman's Best, Diamond Kings, Donruss, Donruss Optic, Immaculate Collection (auto-mem /20), Flawless, National Treasures (auto-mem /99), Prime Cuts (auto /99), Stadium Club, Topps, Allen & Ginter, Topps Archives, Topps Archives Snapshots, Topps Bunt, Topps Chrome, Topps Dynasty (seven versions; all auto-mem /10), Finest, Five Star (auto), Gold Label, Gypsy Queen, Heritage, High Tek, Museum Collection, Opening Day and Triple Threads (auto-mem /99).

It's a hefty lineup but one that's perhaps helping keep things a little bit reasonable as demand grows.

Because he's plentiful, you can find his ink for as little as $22 right now on eBay with the typical lofty prices for signed-and-slabbed Chrome rarities, though not quite as hefty as those who swing for the fences. Interestingly, his first two Superfractors are also available right now -- unsigned -- with big price tags attached. His standard low-end RCs? They can be found for about $1.

By season's end, though, it will be interesting to see how these cards look -- just like his stats.
