Max Muncy's All-Star snub goes perfectly with his cardboard

The annual All-Star snub hot takes are blazing after the MLB All-Star teams were announced on Sunday night and there's one guy who's having a break-out year and didn't make the cut.
But, don't worry, he's used to that on cardboard, too. His name? Max Muncy.
The 27-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder has hit 20 homers in 67 games so far this season, which is his third in the bigs. He's an unlikely slugger as he had five homers for his career entering this year. Last summer? He was in Oklahoma City all season after being released by the Oakland A's -- and even that time as a Dodger down in the Bible Belt didn't appear to be a given at one point.
Muncy was a fifth-round pick of the Oakland A's back in 2012 and he made his MLB debut three years ago hitting just .206 in 45 games for the ol' Moneyballers. He didn't fare much better after that with a .186 showing in 51 games and his absence from MLB last season didn't help his cardboard chances.
Want a Rookie Card? He's got just one -- a 2015 Topps Update card that he shares with Tyler Ladendorf who didn't fare much better in Oakland. Want a Muncy autograph? They do exist -- just 20 different cards -- in three products. He's got a card with parallels in 2012 Elite Extra Edition and a Optichromed version of that Panini Prizm and then a rainbow in 2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks. That's it.
Want standard cardboard? He's got fewer than 60 cards in all -- and nothing since 2015 Topps Update (15 cards there) other than a Topps Now card this season that he shared with Joc Pederson when it arrived late last month. (That one? Just 220 copies ordered so it's relatively rare -- even for even Topps Now.) That's his only Dodgers card and fans bleeding Dodger Blue are buying (though not at that price).
Muncy's autos are relatively affordable despite him having only a few appearances with his rarest graded cards available for a few hundred a pop instead of the thousands commanded by top prospects. His Rookie Card? The parallels can have pricey eBay asking prices but otherwise can be had in bulk lots or for a few bucks if you wait out auctions with Buy-It-Nows around $5.
There's still a shot at some Mid-summer Classic magic that could help that cardboard and get it on the minds of more than just Dodgers fans. Muncy will get a little more attention with his name among the All-Star Game's Final Vote players -- someone among them will make the All-Star team in both leagues. His 20 homers are tied for 15th in MLB this season and fourth in the National League, one behind Bryce Harper and just two off the lead.
