Mike Trout Superfractor that never happened powers big pack of Superfractor sales coming next month via Goldin Auctions

What if Mike Trout had been found on a 2011 Bowman Chrome Rookie Card autograph and it had a Superfractor parallel?

That didn't happen, but that dream cardboard scenario could have been close to reality if a new item in an upcoming Goldin Auctions event is any indicator.

It's a PSA/DNA certified Trout autograph -- that part's for sure -- on a card that looks like it could be a genuine Super from that year's release. It's a card that could have been printed by Topps but then never released when a signing couldn't be lined up in time.

The opening bid on this big fish that got away? A cool $5,000 -- and that's already been met by an opening bid. 

It's not uncommon for card companies to ready cards for production but then pull them from their releases -- that happens all the time -- but for unreleased megacards like this one to make their way out and then get signed? Probably not the norm. It's also quite possible that this Super is not from the authorized Topps printing session -- but had been on a prepped card sheet/file -- as its Superfractor coils aren't quite as sharp as, say, the Kris Bryant Super below.

"This is a recently discovered, super-premium collectible, and one of the single most-intriguing Trout commemoratives in the hobby," reads the auction listing. "The Angels' young superstar has placed a magnificent, blue-ink signature on the obverse of this extraordinary, uncirculated collectible. The wholly unique 'Cinderella' piece is a very special card, perhaps a design prototype or in-house proof that was created and manufactured by Topps but never formally released. (PSA has not documented a year of issue, title or specific series designation for the piece.)"

It's also not alone in the big sale on the Goldin Auctions event set to close on Aug. 10.

The Trout is a bit of a mystery, but the others on the block are not. The Trout is one of several Superfractors up for grabs. Joining it? The BGS 9.5/10 2013 Bowman Chrome Draft Kris Bryant Superfractor -- a card that has a long story of its own as to how it was released -- by Topps -- and a card that previously allegedly sold for big bucks privately after an $89,999 eBay listing. It's already at $13,000 after three bids in this auction.

Also on the block via Goldin is Shohei Ohtani's 2018 Bowman Chrome Superfractor -- the Chrome update to his Bowman Super that commanded big bucks last year with the arrival of the Japanese star who was the eventual American League Rookie of the Year. While that first Super topped $184,000 at auction, this one opens at just $25,000 in its BGS 9/10 slab. It has two bids and sits at $29,000 in this event so far.

Joining these also from last year is a Superfractor auto from Chicago White Sox prospect Luis Robert and an unsigned Superfractor for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. You can see all of their present bid amounts at the link above and they're all in the gallery below.
