Other versions of this card were record-breakers at auction ... could this one retake the throne?
It's the Mike Trout 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks 1/1 Superfractor autograph and it will open the next Goldin Auctions event as auction No. 1 with an opening bid of $1 million, the auction house teased on Thursday.
How soon? Very soon -- the card will appear in an auction set to open next week on July 28.
A Red Refractor version of this card (/5) was one of the previous record-holders for modern card sales at over $900,000 but that mark was eclipsed by the sale of a LeBron James card at $1.84 million earlier this month. That set a record for the most money paid for modern pieces.
That James card had 23 other copies made like it ... this one is a one-of-a-kind piece as just one Superfractor was signed and serial-numbered and put into a pack by Topps. Meanwhile, the all-time record for the sale of any card is $3.12 million for a Honus Wagner from the famed T206 set.
