NBA Hoops' SLAM magazine insert cards add fuel to retail fire

What's old is new again ... at least in some basketball card boxes found in the retail aisle.

That sums up the SLAM magazine insert cards in packs of 2020-21 Panini Hoops, which recently arrived with a look back at 20 past covers from the long-running magazine.

It's a simple lineup -- 20 covers -- in this first go, but there are five parallels of each one to chase and there's some competition to land a number of them over on eBay if you're like Buzz and haven't spotted anything yet out in the wild on the wax front.

A version of all 20 cards can be seen in the gallery below and there are five versions to chase beyond the basic one -- so 120 cards in all. There are Holo, Purple Explosion and Green Explosion cards to be found in addition to the regular cards for this one in basic Hoops boxes and there will be Winter and Winter Holo cards in the versions where you find Winter Hoops. (Buzz hasn't seen those, either.) At this point, only the Green cards appear to be serial-numbered -- 89 copies per card.

The players found here are notable stars from the past and present -- Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Jason Williams, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant, Vince Carter, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady.

eBay asking prices are strong so far while only Bryant and Jame are flirting with the $1,000 plateau among completed highs for some versions. Bryant's standard card has been a steady seller over $100.

Are these found in retail only? Ripped two hobby boxes and didnt see any but found multiples in my blasters.
