New Topps On Demand set offers colorful twist on 1978 design

Imagine the 1978 Topps baseball set with full-bleed photography or colored parallel borders.

That's what you've got with the newest Topps On Demand set that launched on Thursday with an autograph in every other set as an homage to the original release during its 40th anniversary season.

Available for a maximum of the next six days -- a sell-out is likely before then -- initially only via Topps.com, this one will include 35 cards per $50 set. There are 30 base cards, two numbered parallels and one each of three insert sets in this release.

The parallels include Purple (/75), Blue (/50), Red (/10) and 1/1 Gold cards, while the inserts will include Famous Flashbacks, four-player Rookie Cards and Then & Now cards that pair past stars with guys from today. Autographs will be found in every other set.
