Nick Kingham dominates in near-perfect MLB debut

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Nick Kingham did something that hasn't been done in MLB in at least the last 57 years -- he started his MLB career with nothing less than a perfect game into the seventh inning Sunday against the Cardinals.

The final line for the 26-year-old rookie? One hit, nine strikeouts and zero walks in seven innings. He retired 20 straight before giving up his hit, which is believed to be the most-dominating debut since at least 1961. The previous high was 16 batters by Kansas City's Wayne Simpson in 1970.

Kingdom's first certified autographs came way back in 2012 after he was a fourth-round pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. His first autos are in packs of 2012 Elite Extra Edition where he has nine cards and Goodwin Champions where he has one. The following year, he made his MLB prospect card debut in just 2013 Bowman Sterling where he has 16 cards, while his Bowman Chrome debut came in 2014.

He hasn't had any autographed cards since 2015 when he was included in Panini Contenders. In all, he appears on fewer than 75 different certified autographs and we've yet to see a Rookie Card, though Topps Now would seem likely today. (Update: It's been added at right.)

Kingham's 2014 Superfractor leads the way on eBay active auctions right now at $7,999 while $300 for this card is the leader among completed eBay auctions right now.

In nine minor-league seasons he went 43-41 with a 3.37 ERA and 617 strikeouts in 721 innings. He was 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA this season for Triple-A Indianapolis where he had put up 27 strikeouts in 22 innings before getting the call. It was a long path to get to MLB, but that's part of his story along with his historic debut.

"It made me who I am today," Kingham told MLB.com. "It's my path. It's my journey. It's my story. It makes me who I am. It made me prepared for this day."
