Ozzie Albies builds upon a powerful start to season

Are his cards good for bargain hunters? Maybe not now on some stuff ... but there's definitely new interest and some under-the-radar cards out there.

He's Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies and power-wise he's come out of nowhere to lead the majors with 13 home runs after his latest shot on Monday night -- he's one of five players with that many longballs so far this season and it's a surprise because he's not been known as a power guy. Albies had just six homers in 57 games last season and hit just 16 in 390 games before arriving in Atlanta.

This is a change that might spark added interest in his baseball cards.

He's been a heavily watched prospect since his arrival on cardboard in 2015 and some eBay prices show people know his potential. He's already got more than 600 different cards but just seven Rookie Card appearances so far this year -- Bowman, Diamond Kings, Donruss, Topps, Opening Day, Gypsy Queen and Heritage.

He's got nearly 200 different certified autos so far and he made his debut in that regard in just three 2015 brands -- Bowman, Elite Extra Edition and Panini Contenders. He's been a regular auto appearance in prospecting brands since then, especially in 2016, and then 2017 appearances with Donruss, Diamond Kings and Pro Debut. He's got more than 50 different autographs alone this year with more to come for sure along with many more RCs. Right now, Diamond Kings, Topps and Topps Tribute are the easiest places to land his ink among this year's releases.

For the year, he's hitting .277 with just 31 RBI despite all those homers. He's also got five stolen bases and 38 runs scored for the first-place Braves, which are stacked with home-grown talent -- Ronald Acuña the biggest one -- as well as some notable young players who've been watched closely such as Dansby Swanson and Sean Newcomb, who is 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 46 innings this season.
