Panini America has added a new point guard to its team.

Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham -- the likely No. 1 pick in this year's NBA Draft set for Thursday night -- signed an exclusive deal for cards and autographed cards which was revealed by the company on Tuesday.

“Cade took the collegiate basketball world by storm during his lone season at Oklahoma State, and we’re excited to be the exclusive source for his officially licensed trading cards and autograph trading cards,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop in a prepared release.

Panini America's college cardboard to come with current players is now down with the CLC.

The company confirmed on Monday that its upcoming plans to make cards of current players on cards under the NCAA's new name, image and likenesses rules will extend to using trademarks for more than 200 schools under the CLC licensing program. It will include men's and women's stars in the major sports as well as Olympic sports.

“Panini’s leadership in the market and exclusive license agreement in the trading card category helps ensure each participating institution retains approval rights for when and how their logos are used in conjunction with any NIL trading card products,” said David Kirkpatrick, CLC’s VP of Non-Apparel Licensing, in a prepared release. “This helps protect the collegiate institutions we represent while allowing Panini to work with student-athletes to identify product opportunities within in the parameters of institution policies.”

Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

The Card: Kumar Rocker 2018 Panini USA Baseball Stars & Stripes Jumbo Nameplate (/5)
The Price: Under $40
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This Vandy star was a dominator and was perhaps going to be a top pick in this year's MLB Draft but instead he fell right into a prime spot when slid a bit and went 10th overall. Why do I say that? When it comes to cardboard, being a member of the New York Mets organization is better than being a Texas Ranger, which is where teammate Jack Leiter went at No. 2. He's the son of former NFL player Tracy Rocker and he's got a lot of cardboard thanks to USA Baseball appearances, including some cool cards like this. I don't think I ever pulled his auto -- but I tried a number of times -- but I couldn't pass up this rarity that appears to include the top halves of the "RO" from the back of his jersey. The bottom half of that duo is on eBay with a price four times what I paid. If his college dominance is any kind of a sign, we should see him in the majors quickly.

What's buzz-worthy: Imagine a Project70 run all done by one artist in watercolor and with every card in a 70-card set found in pack form with some other chasers. That's this one -- and the pieces appear to emulate the cards of the past rather than re-create them.

New NCAA rules allowing college athletes making money off their likeness -- and signing autographs -- will mean amateurs are coming to cardboard very soon with Panini America now in on the action.

The company revealed Thursday that it has joined teams with OneTeam Partners, a leader in the group licensing space, to "produce, distribute, promote and sell college trading cards featuring current men’s and women’s college athletes who opt-in to OneTeam’s College Athlete Group Licensing program." Panini intends to create athletes' cards for several sports including football, basketball, baseball and the Olympic sports for both men's and women's competitors in the program.

"The trading card market is booming, and Panini is the leader in the category," said Ahmad Nassar, CEO of OneTeam, in a prepared release. "With its existing current college licenses, there is an amazing opportunity to make co-branded college and current college athlete cards for the first time in history – across schools and men’s and women’s sports. The group-licensing model is key to including athletes in broad-based licensed products like this."

The kids will have something -- something that's only for them -- to look forward to at The National next week.

Details are still coming together, but at least one major card manufacturer (Hint: Panini America) will have a promotion just for kids who collect at the show that tips off in Rosemont, Ill., on Wednesday.

Kids are encouraged to stop by the Blowout Cards booth (No. 854) for the inside information on where to go at the show -- and as an added plus, we'll have free T-shirts for all kids under age 12, too.

The comeback includes a throwback at The National this year.

Wild Card revealed its wrapper redemption plans on Wednesday for this year's National Sports Collectors Convention that starts one week from now in Chicago.

It includes its newest release and a nod back to the set that started it all in 1991 -- and only 500 30th Anniversary Retro Boxes will be available at the show.

A new set of Topps baseball cards is highlighting some of the biggest names in Negro Leagues history as part of a push to bring baseball back to Nashville.

Music City Baseball, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Adidas and The Fluent Group all helped bring to life the 2021 Topps x Nashville Stars set, which is live today via Topps.com. It's a 17-card set available in eight-card packs that will only be available via Topps for the next 36 days. They will be printed to order -- the number made is the number ordered -- after that window expires.

According to Topps, the "release of these baseball cards is one of Music City Baseball’s many contributions to the Negro Leagues Museum, including revenue sharing on all promotional items sold on their website." If an MLB team is award to Nashville, it would be known as the Stars, a nod to a past Negro League team in the city.

“The launch of these cards celebrates the players and the impact they made on the world of professional baseball,” said Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in a prepared release. “It’s an exciting opportunity for us to share the history while expanding the museum’s support base.”
