Panini America creates Barry Sanders set for 30th anniversary

There aren't a lot of details on this new Panini America release other than, well, if you run into Barry Sanders this weekend you might get one from him.

"Excited for homecoming and the opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my 1988 season w/ @OSUAthletics & @CowboyFB," Sanders tweeted on Friday. "My friends @PaniniAmerica created a special card set [featuring] the classic 1988 Donruss design. Find me this weekend & I just might give you one! #WhoDoYouCollect"

Sanders ran for 2,628 yards on 344 carries and scored 37 touchdowns that season for the Cowboys before he was then taken third in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions behind Troy Aikman and Tony Mandarich.

Sanders' team takes on the sixth-ranked Texas Longhorns tomorrow night and, according to the school, Sanders and the 1988 offensive line, aka "the War Pigs," are grand marshals of "America's Greatest Homecoming Celebration." The team also will wear 1988 throwbacks with a patch in honor of the 30th anniversary of Sanders' Heisman-winning campaign.

These new cards carry the 1988 Donruss baseball design and one of the photos was previously used on Sanders' memorable 1989 Pro Set Rookie Card -- his only RC showing him in his Oklahoma State uniform.
