Don't call it a comeback ... but it totally is one.
Panini America teased the return of Score hockey cards on Friday with the image above. What does it mean? Well, it means that there will be packs with at least two cards inside arriving sometime soon.
Want more details? We've added them ... keep reading.
It's also a likely home for cardboard of the No. 2 pick in this year's NHL Draft -- Panini revealed in August that it had signed Finnish hockey star Kaapo Kakko to an exclusive autograph card deal.
We'll have more details here when they are available for the hockey developments for Panini, which had its NHL card license ended following the 2013-14 season.
Update (Sept. 30): Panini has revealed its plans -- and they do include Kakko -- as 2019-20 Score will arrive as an online-only release via its site, iCollectPanini.com.
It's the first hockey cardboard from the company in five years and it will include Rookie Cards of either Kakko or Vitali Kravtsov and one autograph or parallel of the other player. There also will be dual autos as well as parallels that include Black, Red Line (/99), Blue Line (/49), Goal Line (/25), Artist’s Proof (/5) and 1/1 Cracked Ice Master Proofs. Kravtsov also is a Panini-exclusive autograph.
“Our return to hockey is quite an exciting time for all of us internally but also for hockey collectors who have asked for years when we would return,” said Panini CEO Mark Warsop. “That demand only increases given that our products will be the only place to obtain autographs and autograph Rookie Cards of these two players who represent the future of hockey.
“Score is a flagship product with a strong heritage in trading cards and provides the perfect platform for our first re-entry into the hockey card market. This is going to be a strong year for our hockey releases.”
Both players will be showcased on Panini Instant cards during the season, too.
