PSA is making another move on its slabs.
This time around, the Newport Beach, Calif.-based company will be using its red-label slabs with the style used for graded cards on all items -- a move that affects autographed cards or other items that are PSA/DNA certified as well as over-sized photo and letter slabs.
"Uniformity and consistency are significant aspects for collectors," PSA President Steve Sloan said, "but we also believe that the added security measures that come with the red labels, such as the PSA LightHouse logo and the fugitive ink pattern, are critical components of collecting today."
In the past, PSA/DNA certified cards were slabbed using a blue label -- something that has been in play for 20 years, according to the company. The change was effective on Jan. 1. New labels also can include full info on an item, which was not alway the case in the past.
"It’s important for collectors to recognize this difference," Sloan said in a prepared release. "If they see an autographed card with the designation 'trading card' on the LightHouse label, that means that PSA has only authenticated the autograph. However, if the label specifies year and manufacturer, that means the submission went through our dual-authentication service."
The company said those who own large collections of PSA/DNA blue-label items and want to change to red labels should call its customer service department at (800) 325-1121 for what it called "special pricing information."
