Race-used NASCAR auction -- with Patrick Mahomes II & 2019 Donruss cameo -- to benefit 15 and the Mahomies Foundation

This hood of NASCAR driver Gray Gaulding's No. 08 Panini America Chevy may not look this clean once it arrives, but it will be headed into a collection out there sometime soon.

Why? How? Well it will be taking the track on Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, a track with action that can the equivalent of a race meeting a demolition derby inside a football stadium -- a literal track where the whole "rubbing is racing" cliche is far more than 100-percent true. After that? Well, there's no waiting for that -- this race-used hood already on the auction block. (Keep reading for the info there.)

The arrival of 2019 Donruss football cards and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes II are on the hood for the ride under the lights at the Food City 300 -- one of a few races where the card-maker has signed on with the 21-year-old Virginia native.

Both Gaulding and Mahomes will sign the hood once it's been used, and the auction will benefits Mahomes' charity – the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation.

The auction opened at $2,500 and already has a bid (click here to view) and it will run until late next week on eBay.

All proceeds from this auction will go to the foundation which is dedicated to improving the lives of children via "15 initiatives that focus on health, wellness, underserved communities and other charitable causes."

Update: Panini, Mahomes and Gaulding offered some thoughts on their project later on Wednesday.

“To be able to benefit Patrick’s foundation, celebrate the start of the NFL season and drive awareness of both our NFL and NASCAR trading card products at mass retail in a unique and compelling way makes a lot of sense," said Jason Howarth, Panini's VP of Marketing, in a prepared release.

“The last year or so has been filled with so many exciting highlights for me, but having my face larger than life on a race car is something I never thought would happen,” Mahomes said in the release. “The folks at Panini have been with me from the beginning, from sponsoring my NFL Draft Party to Friday’s race. It’s just an extension of that partnership, and the fact that my foundation will benefit as a result means a lot to me. I’m rooting for Gray to have an MVP performance of his own under those Friday night lights.”

“Panini has been a great partner of our racing team all season long and that’s really helped promote NASCAR trading cards to diehard NASCAR fans,” Gaulding said in the release. “But adding Patrick Mahomes to the hood of my car for Friday’s race is taking things to another level. I’m excited about it. It’s not every day I can say I’m riding shotgun with an NFL MVP.”
