Rain ruins Lucas Giolito's MLB debut -- but collectors still win

Washington Nationals pitcher Lucas Giolito made his big-league debut on Tuesday night but a rain delay prevented him from picking up a win.

Meanwhile, a win is what collectors will get as the game now makes him eligible for Rookie Cards in the remaining 2016 products from Topps and Panini America. (Will his first be a Topps Now card arriving within hours? Stay tuned. Update: Yep.)

The right-hander from Santa Monica, Calif., gave up just one hit in four innings, walking two and striking out one before the rain ended his night.

Baseball America ranked the 6-foot-6 former first-round pick as the fifth-best prospect in baseball this season, ranking only behind Julio Urias when it came to pitchers. In five minor-league seasons, he has a 24-13 record with a 2.74 ERA and 353 strikeouts in 324-plus innings.

When it comes to cardboard, Giolito already appears on more than 700 different cards with nearly 300 of those being certified autographs. His oldest autograph is his 2011 Bowman Perfect Game All-American Classic auto, which was inserted into packs of 2012 Bowman Draft, and his first Chrome autos can be found in 2013 Bowman Chrome. He's also signed for releases from Topps, Panini America and Leaf Trading Cards.

Interesting Giolito trivia -- his mother is actress Lindsay Frost, who has appeared in The Ring and Collateral Damage and has had TV roles in Without a Trace, The Unit, Boston Legal, Crossing Jordan, Lost, CSI: Miami and Frasier. His father, Rick, is a former actor and producer, while his uncle, Mark Frost, is a co-creator of Twin Peaks with David Lynch.
