Rick and Morty's trading card arrival sparks red-hot frenzy

What happens when a cult classic hits cardboard for the first time, its boxes show signs of over-delivering on some dazzling sketch cards and other big hits, and its fan base is rabid for all of it like it's one big Szechuan Sauce pack from McDonald's? (Wait, what? ... Fans of the show know.)

It means red-hot boxes, scorching cases and even blistering binders for Cryptozoic's newest release.

It's 2018 Rick and Morty Season 1 and it's a cardboard phenom that's as out there as the possibilities in the Adult Swim franchise's forays into, well, just about everything.

Autographs in this one such as this Justin Roiland -- the co-creator of the series and the voice of the two main characters -- are commanding asking prices that are creeping toward the $1,000 mark on eBay. And with some boxes coughing up as many as three hits -- one auto and two sketches -- the boxes are selling so well online that even albums and master sets (just the basics without hits) are enough to pay for boxes even at their scorching prices now. His autograph isn't the only pricey one, either.

On paper, the sketches are listed at one in 16 packs and autographs are one in 48 -- so some boxes can have just one hit, some can have three but across the board they average out at two per box. Results of that are being discussed in depth here on The Blowout Forum.

The sketch cards that can be found as many as two times per box are zany and dazzling across the board showing many aspects of this series that just has to be seen to be believed -- and this set is just the first season for the franchise with it already having three completed and more on the way. (The beefy gallery below shows examples from all artists involved.) The sketch immediately above? It went for $125 -- and it's not alone among strong sellers.
