Steven Universe autographs just part of the cardboard magic

It's a coming-of-age tale -- a hit series with a cosmic twist that's been hailed as an inclusive gem with Peabody Awards, Emmy nods and plenty of other honors you wouldn't necessarily expect from a Cartoon Network series.

But when it comes to the cardboard for Steven Universe, it's the autographs that are offering up the fun and some strong sales for those who have ripped into packs of the recent release from Cryptozoic.

A quick look at completed eBay sales for cards from the series show more than a 30 sales of autographs at $50 or more and half of those topped $100. (Asking prices range as high as $360 for some signers we'll look at later here.) One of these Matthew Moy autos, for example -- went for $100 helped by one of the unique inscriptions he added to several of his cards. It also doesn't hurt that he's been part of other hits like Two Broke Girls. (Hello again, Han.)

He's not alone -- and not even the priciest of the bunch.

Show creator Rebecca Sugar is among the most-plentiful autos in this release -- she signed 225 cards -- and she added detailed drawings to a number of hers (since she doesn't have a character on the card) and those have sold for as much as $399 on eBay. Asking prices in active auctions are just as meaty and vary depending on the sketches and inscriptions she added.

Aimee Mann, a singer-songwriter who appeared in a past episode, has her first certified autos here. Her autos have sold for as much as $120 as there's good interest in the two-time Grammy winner who was on NPR's list of the world's 10 greatest living songwriters in 2006.

The 20 signers -- you can see a sample of each below -- have varying volumes of autographs depending on how many characters they voice in the hit series. The lead character, for example, is voiced by Zach Callison and he's got five different signed cards in here with his Steven Universe card being the most-available at 125 copies signed and, despite that, it's sold for more than any other of his with a high at $249 on eBay.

Helping things out in this release -- besides the fact that the autos are found one per box -- is that sketch cards are also in every box with colorful and energetic takes on the show. Actual sales on eBay show sketches as high as $50 with many around $25 -- though asking prices for sketches can be as high as $125 on the site. A sampling of those also can be seen below.

Heck even large lots of cards beyond autographs have commanded some pretty good cash on eBay, too.
