Sunday Superstars: Week 8 NFL icons include James Conner, Todd Gurley, Marlon Mack & more from a strong week for RBs

It was The Week of the Running Back if you ask me.

Pittsburgh's James Conner was one of eight RBs with 95 rushing yards or more this week -- seven topped the century mark -- and this former Pitt star had 24 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-18 drubbing of the Cleveland Browns. He also added five catches for 66 yards, helping collectors and fans really wonder what might happen when (if?) Le'Veon Bell walks through that door. Conner's Rookie Cards and debut ink from last season look even more appealing, though the whole Bell thing does hold back potential a bit (for now). There's some risk picking up his cardboard but there could be rewards if you're selective and he locks in as the Steelers' future guy and continues to play well.

-- Todd Gurley II The Rams' star RB had another big day -- shocker -- against the Packers with 25 carries for 114 yards but he failed to score on the ground. No worries, though, as he added six catches for 81 yards and a score in the 29-27 victory. That receiving mark also was the Rams' leading total to go with his unquestioned place atop its rushing list. His RCs from 2015 and ink from all years will continue to be big deals this season -- especially if the Rams can do something the Dodgers can't ... win it all.

-- Joe Mixon This second-year Cincinnati Bengals RB racked up 123 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries win a 37-34 win over the Bucs. This was a career day for this former Oklahoma star with new records for yardage and TDs and it was just his second 100-yard game as a pro. He had four TDs last season -- he's tied that -- and he'll top his yardage total for last season sometime in the next week or two.

-- Marlon Mack The Colts' second-year RB did it again as he got the ball 25 times and ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns -- both in the fourth quarter -- in a rout of the seriously underwhelming Oakland Raiders.  He's already topped his rushing total of last season and tied his scoring total, helping offset the Colts' big throws with some ground-game focus. His Rookie Cards from last year are probably still overlooked by a number of people, but back-to-back 125-plus-yard games are going to help change that and spark more interest.

-- Adrian Peterson This veteran and future Hall of Famer was the NFL's leading rusher this week with 149 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. He added a seven-yard touchdown catch, too, in a 20-13 win over the Giants. His four touchdowns this season for Washington is his best mark since 2015 and it's his third game in a row with at least 97 rushing yards. He's 33 years old -- look for those RCs back in 2007 -- but he's only had fewer than 96 rushing yards in a game twice this season. And that's for a team that's 5-2 and atop the NFC East. This all feels like a recipe for added interest in past cards.
