It wasn't that long ago that auction houses were the home of mostly vintage cardboard but those days are gone to a degree -- now it's the big new legendary stuff (with big names of the past) that can heat things up quite a bit.

This weekend's sale over at Pristine Auction is a prime example of this, led by this treasure from Panini America ... and it's not alone with a number of impressive pieces heading into collector hands after bidding ends on Sunday.

ONE POWERFUL PULL 
The Item: A 24-legend 2020 Panini National Treasures NFL Treasure Chest 1/1 booklet card
The Price: $6,825 after 42 bids (ends Sunday)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Where do you start with a card like this when the left panel alone includes patch and tag pieces from the likes of Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. The middle? I spy Patrick Mahomes, Joe Namath, Roger Staubach and Drew Brees. And the right side? Well, that one includes Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young for starters on this quarterback classic. There's no need to name them all or overstate the obvious with this loaded 24-legend booklet as it's the only one that exists with all of these patch pieces embedded into it. Pristine calls it "nothing short of epic" and the final price should get even more dramatic before it ends. In case you're wondering, the card notes that the Brady, Brees, Griese, Foles and McMahon swatches are game-used. It's an epic find with so much NFL success all in one spot.

ONE OF THE GO-TO RELEASES ...
Dropping March 3: 2021 Topps Heritage baseball cards
While standard Topps is the flagship release for pretty much all of collecting, for the last 21 years this one has been a highlight and a staple for many who enjoy things oldschool but with the chases of today and plenty of nods to the days that were so much different than they are now. I've said it before, but the 1970s perhaps won't be as fun for some Heritage fans -- I'm speaking for myself here but others may agree -- but the 1972 Topps set is one that has some weirdness that works. (And it's better than most of what might follow it for Heritage.) This set is one that gets a ride this year ... so here's hoping that beget all that and more. The Relics look like they could be interesting this year but that's just one thing to look for. Now is the time to be watching the boxes and get those pre-orders in, too, as peoples' attention might be on other sports or flagship that arrives before this one. Brooklyn fans and Los Angeles fans have a new place to find autographs of a Dodgers legend.

Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax has signed his first cards for Panini America, which the company revealed on Thursday. The arrival will come in boxes of 2020 National Treasures baseball cards set to arrive on Nov. 4.

"We’re extremely excited to be able to introduce Sandy Koufax autographs and memorabilia cards to Panini America products," said baseball brand manager Tim Trout in a prepared statement. "We welcome Sandy with open arms and we know his mere presence in our products will be a huge driver for a lot of fans and collectors. It’s not every day you can say that a player addition can really move the needle for high-end products — but Sandy Koufax is not most players. He’s one of the greatest to ever do it."
