They're not easy pulls, but they're cards in 2020 Topps Opening Day that are unique and figure to be ones that could hold interest over time as they might not be ever made again.
Arriving today in packs of that low-end but loaded-with-the-unusual brand are 11 Ballpark Profile autograph cards that showcase people who are probably known well by their hometown fans but might be relative unknowns to others.
In most -- but not all -- cases, these are cardboard debuts for those in the set and they are certainly all first-time certified autographs.

HE LOVES L.A. AFTER GAME ONE

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: What do you collect when a star has bounced around and arrives in a new home, scoring 30 points in his new team debut against their rival? Well, I don't know as I'm firmly priced out on the big cards in basketball these (but I do have a clean NBA Hoops RC headed into a slab soon and I'll dig that) but my gut says that his hottest cards soon will be his first Clippers cards more than his Raptors or Spurs stuff. But, with that not here yet, the best bets would be to bargain hunt among the rookie patch autos from his rookie season like this one. There could be cheaper ones for sure, but there are also a ton of pricier ones with National Treasures cards in slabs going into five-figures. There's no doubt that Leonard is a talent and here's hoping the past weirdness settles down and he's a Clipper for some time with success ... that would justify the big-money prices for his cards and justify even more gains for sure. He's already got championships with two teams and there are expectations for more. Game 1 against LeBron and his Lakers seemed to start off on a big note, which might fuel expectations and interest here even more if his team continues playing as it did last night.

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The Zion packs are here and there are a number of possibilities with the various parallels in this one -- and there are a number of them that are rare like this card. Will this price be hit? Well, big things are also possible for NBA phenoms -- and there are other active auctions that are higher (seriously, hit that link below) for the No. 1 overall draft pick. So ... maybe. Part of me wants to cite the arrivals of Shaq and LeBron James in comparison to this but the hype train just seems to be bigger and pricier than those Hall of Famers. Will it last? We'll see -- again, anything seems possible with NBA cards and the global demand without a massive global supply -- but the key is to ride the track however you want to as a seller, buyer or collector. We have some time before NBA Hoops arrives with him in pro colors so the Duke stuff will get plenty of attention until that time.

Baseball America’s highlight line: “If the new Triple-A ball is going to lead to massively inflated offensive numbers, it’s fitting that there’s a player posting one of the best statistical seasons we’ve seen this century. France is now hitting .396/.473/.780 with 26 home runs. He could become the first full-season minor league hitter to top .400 since Erubiel Durazo hit .404 in 1999, and he may do it while hitting more than 30 home runs as well."

The Panini America VIP Party has a Hall of Famer and a heavy hitter ready for its Saturday soiree.
Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman and500 Home Run Club member Rafael Palmeiro will be there, and that ups the roster to seven past stars from the sports world and beyond for the event made for high-rollers in the hobby this weekend in Chicago.
In 18 seasons for the Marlins, Padres and Brewers Hoffman recorded 601 saves, which is second only to the new Hall of Famer who passed him, Mariano Rivera.

Baseball America’s highlight line: “The unquestioned best pitching prospect in the Cubs’ system, Marquez put together his best start as a pro on July 25. The lefthander set a career-high with 14 strikeouts, doing so in part with a fastball that touched as high as 101 mph. The start continued a stellar July in which Marquez has whiffed 33 batters in 21.1 innings. He’s also allowed just one home run since May 1."

Buzz’s card take: This 20-year-old is in his fourth season of MiLB ball and his total numbers aren't overwhelming -- 11-11 with a 3.45 ERA and 253 strikeouts in 224 innings. It's this season that has that Ks ratio up so that's a good sign but he's got nothing but MiLB team set cards to chase right now. That's because the fielding gloves used by Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo when they fielded the final out in the 2016 World Series to end 108 years of heartache are headed to the auction block on Aug. 1 in Chicago via a Goldin Auctions event coinciding with the National Sports Collectors Convention.
The opening bid? A cool $250,000 -- and they are being sold together.
Both gloves are signed and inscribed by the players to note their historic status with documentation from both MLB Authentication and Fanatics, which handled autograph signings with the championship team. The items have been seen on countless pieces of memorabilia given their significance, of course, with the Bryant glove seen on one of his 2017 Topps Heritage cards and both on the cover of Sports Illustrated being just two examples.
"Goldin Auctions is proud to offer at auction two significant pieces of history involving that monumental play," reads the auction listing. "Two truly remarkable pieces of baseball history offered in one lot."

Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ... it's all MLB and WWE this time with a new baseball season under way and it being WrestleMania week.
The Card: 2018 Topps WWE Then Now Forever 25 Years of Raw #RAW28 Mr. McMahon's Limousine Explodes
The Reason Graded: You don't see why? This is one of the greatest cards I've ever seen in any set, and it simply had to lead off here, too. The heat you see on the card is only rivaled by the heat that is this card. (Something like that.) So, what's the story with this? In a June 2007 episode of Raw, WWE Chairman and ultimate on-screen villain Vince McMahon had an unusual evening on the air. At the end of the show he walked through a star-laden backstage area to go to his limo at the end of his "Appreciation Night." He stepped inside, closed the door and at that exact moment it exploded on live TV. (See it happen here and read all about the fallout.) The company was bombarded with phone calls from some members of the public and it even issued a press release that McMahon was, indeed, dead. The company's stock even took a hit (seriously) as part of the story line. Somehow, it took all of these years for this epic moment to make it onto a card.
The Grade: BGS 9.5Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 B10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 Reality Check: I was all over this one the second I saw the checklist and knew I'd own it in a slab. The super-skinny stock and dark edges make it tough to land without a tweaked edge or corner, but mine is the first and it's nearly perfect. (The spot on the right is part of the photo, not a nicked edge.) The only thing better than a near-perfect copy of a card like this would be one signed by VKM himself ... after all, he somehow survived. This card makes me laugh and I laugh even harder with a high-grade copy.

It's also a way to get an autograph of the Chicago Cubs' World Series-winning manager who has never sat down with a card company for a certified signature on a card despite a 15-year career as boss atop plenty more time as a coach and minor-leaguer. It's that time that helped bring some of these concepts to life.
"I’ve been wanting to do this for years" reads on essay on the Maddon Art website. "I’ve always enjoyed art, we all do. I’m not saying I’m an artist by any means, but I’ve always enjoyed the concepts. I believe baseball is a very artistic game and that major league players are artists, just like athletes from all of the other professional sports. Here's a look at the top five players on this week's Baseball America Top MLB Prospects Hot Sheet and their seasons so far. It's a little something to help those who might want to dabble with prospecting -- some basics on their baseball cards alongside a highlight line from those more scouting-minded. Season so far: Hitting .326 with 20 doubles, 15 homers, 52 RBI and 0 SBs in 73 games
Baseball America’s highlight line: "After an extended stint on the disabled list, the White Sox’s No. 1 prospect returned on July 15 and quickly kicked off the cobwebs. ... He’s already socked half as many home runs (five) in 20 games with Charlotte as he did in 52 with Double-A Birmingham."

He was a key in the Jose Quintana trade and that means his present cards will show him in White Sox colors instead of Cubbie Blue as his first Chrome auto does. The Item: 2018 Cryptozoic Rick And Morty Season 1 Autograph #JR-R Justin Roiland as Rick Sanchez (/50)

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Just like the cartoon series, you can't really explain it -- you just have to see it. A number of the autographs in this recently released product are scorchers and they're not even the main thrust of the set -- you'll find one and sometimes two full-color sketch cards per box (and sometimes an auto atop that). Roiland is the co-creator of this cult classic series and he signed a few different cards for characters in this release -- and that hasn't brought down prices for those that have sold or are on the block. Even the binders for this one are selling very well.

LIVING IN AMERICA -- HUGE TOPPS LIVING SET INTEREST
The Item: 2018 Topps Living No. 6 Nick Markakis
The Price: $224.51 so far (after 22 bids) -- see what it's up to now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The market for 2018 Topps Living Set cards is going a little wonky for some players on eBay with the lesser-knowns and lower-volume cards from earlier weeks like this one commanding way more than you might think. Markakis sold only 2,678 copies. It shows that the interest is there from set collectors who must have it all. On the flip side, guys like Shohei Ohtani sold more than 20,000 copies and Ronald Acuna more than doubled that. Ohtani has been a steady seller for some who have opted to get theirs graded but demand for Topps Living isn't just living it's thriving right now.
