For years now, autographed books coming direct from the publishers -- or direct from the authors themselves -- have been an affordable way to collect ink from notable names in all realms of pop culture.

It's not a perfect system with stamps, fakes and autopens sometimes in the mix -- a problem for publishers to catch as they are not authenticators -- but thanks to dedicated collectors on the Blowout Cards Forum and elsewhere, those problems often get caught and fixed ... or at least become well-known enough to avoid if it's an issue that goes uncorrected.

Getting ink in-person is always best -- book tours still happen, of course -- but landing autographed editions from publishers, online sellers or celebs themselves via their websites or other appearances are common. So, with that said, here's the first of what just might become a monthly department here on The Buzz for this new year

The future of Minor League Baseball is a cloudy one with this season in doubt or if not done before it ever starts, hundreds of players cut in recent weeks to pare everything down and the constant worry of the number of teams shrinking as MLB struggles with what to do amidst everything that has come with the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the creativity of MiLB and in particular its fun promotional nights can't be topped -- and both of those things got me looking for something different for my collection and for this regularly appearing department here on The Buzz. This piece presented itself with a nod to pop culture for a price that, well, can't easily be beat at the big-league level for game-used material ... so, it had to be had.

This specialty jersey you're about to learn about came directly from the Daytona Tortugas, the Class-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and was used last season. It's a one-of-a-kind jersey as the team wore them just once last year as "the best-dressed team in baseball" donned different specialty jerseys for each of their Friday night home games last year.

For just the second time ever, the No. 3 Chevy is in Victory Lane after the Daytona 500.

Austin Dillon's second career victory in NASCAR's top series came at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday night after he bumped Aric Almirola into the wall on the final lap, winning on the only lap he led of the evening.

The last time the No. 3 was a winner at the track in the top series was when Dale Earnhardt won the race for the first and only time in his legendary career driving for owner Richard Childress, who is Dillon's grandfather.

It was 15 years ago today that the NASCAR world changed dramatically as its biggest star died during the last lap of its biggest race.

Dale Earnhardt's final Daytona 500 was one that put the spotlight of both the media and collectors on the racing ranks like never before as The Intimidator's life and his famous No. 3 Chevy were celebrated for all they had accomplished.

Countless diecasts, trading cards and other items were scooped up by collectors and new fans like never before back then. Today? The legend is still strong though the collectibles world has changed dramatically.

The 58th running of the Daytona 500 is a week away and, while NASCAR collectors won't have new trading cards to commemorate their new season, there are already plenty of diecasts available and more on the way.

Rookie Chase Elliott won the pole for the race on Sunday -- he's the youngest driver to ever take that honor -- and he's one of some new faces in new cars as he's behind the No. 24 Chevy previously run by four-time champ Jeff Gordon.  

Elliott is the 20-year-old son of former Cup champion Bill Elliott and had 53 top-10 finishes in 66 Xfinity Series races -- four of those wins -- before making the jump to NASCAR's top level.
