Volodymyr Zelensky's chapters in the history books aren't yet written, but the record books already reflect a significant place on cardboard.

The Ukraine president doesn't appear on a lot of cardboard -- actually, right now, it's just six cards -- but they are in big demand as his historic profile is unfolding before our eyes daily as his country is being attacked by Russian forces. Demand has even led to unauthorized/fake "reprint" cards without the embedded actual flag patch inside them over on eBay. (So read listings closely and examine the photos if you're a potential buyer right now.)

Update: "I don’t like seeing counterfeits. This was the first time," said Brian Wallos, who brought the landmark Decision 2016 and Decision 2020 sets to life. "We only printed about 50 of the unnumbered Silver flags of about 55 subjects. ... The world Leader Flags are inserted about six to eight per case. We are also adding a lot more parallel colors to Decision on the coming products."

This one is a new department here on The Buzz ... Fast Five -- a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's perhaps something to ponder.

This time? Five boxes in the big sale that I'm considering digging into right now.

RETRO-STYLED HIGH-END MLB
Buzz doesn't really rip a lot of high-end boxes -- I go for the safety of volume value since I'm generally not a re-seller at all -- but this one in the big sale (the only box of my picks over $60 on this list) is one that has a combo that you don't see a boatload of these days ... a retro aesthetic with high-end potential. Boxes of 2019 Topps Brooklyn Collection MLB include seven cards -- two autographs, two parallels and three base cards -- all on thick stock with styles from the past but never used. All five of the parallel sets are /75 or less with just 50 cards in the base set (simple enough to chase via singles). The auto list is 79 with four parallels per card with names that include Hall of Famers and past/present stars. It's a mix that includes Derek Jeter, Hank Aaron, Ichiro Suzuki, Bryce Harper, Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Trout, Ronald Acuña Jr., Sandy Koufax, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and many more. Only two autos per box might make landing these notables tougher ... but they are in there.

THE RETIRING CHAMP

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This 44-year-old announced today that the 2020 NASCAR season will be his final campaign as a full-time Cup driver and, in turn, his final shot at becoming the all-time season championship record-holder. He's presently tied with Richard Petty at seven career NASCAR Cup Series titles and has been that way since 2016 when he last took home the crown. In the three seasons since then, his best finish was 10th so it's debatable whether he might make a run in his final lap, but he will be one who is watched heavily. I met and interviewed him when he was a rookie which was fun back in the day but I'm actually not sure if I've ever pulled one of his autographs in my off-and-on time collecting NASCAR stuff. There's a decent amount of ink for him out there -- more than 800 different cards -- but his autograph has always been relatively minimalist, so that's why I never chased one otherwise. I might make sure to track one down now.

It's the new big name against the guy who's basically the greatest of all time -- or at worst the greatest of his time -- and these are players commanding nothing but big bucks on cardboard. GONE FISHING ... CAUGHT THE BIG ONE
The Item: Mike Trout 2018 Topps Transcendent Collection Emerald autograph (/15)

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This guy is one of the big names found in not one but two 2018 Transcendent Collection releases from Topps last year and he's the star of the VIP party that high-rollers will attend this year, too. While everything is low-volume in this ultra-high-end brand, there are a few guys who can be found more than others -- Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Ichiro Suzuki for sure as Trout is the main star in the standard version's extra inclusions, while the two Japanese stars are the only players found in the Asian edition.

A NATIONAL BONUS FOR LIVING SET BUYERS
The Item: 2018 Topps National Sports Collectors Convention Francisco Lindor Topps Living Set litho signed by artist Mayumi Seto (90/100)
The Price: $94 after 20 bids with several days remaining
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This piece was a bonus item to a few lucky collectors at this year's National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland as the artist was on hand on the Saturday of the show to greet fans. A ticket good for one of the prints was randomly put into the three-card Living Set packs that were available at the show. The set has become a popular weekly release via Topps.com with thousands of copies of each card sold each week and Seto is the creative force fueling some of the demand with her life-like artwork that's being used as part of this 1953 Topps homage. (That year's set used paintings.) Other lithos have asking prices between $345 and $749 among active auctions, while a number of these have already sold. It will be interesting to watch this one -- asking prices on standard cards she signed at the show also have commanded some strong prices. This one is impressive.

AN OHTANI 1/1 ... ON THE CHEAP?
The Item: 2018 Bowman Shohei Ohtani Yellow 1/1 Printing Plate

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The speculators in Shohei Ohtani cardboard might be less speculative now that he is facing injury issues that could sideline him for some time -- at least it's looking that way. But, if this one had been found a month ago, it would be much pricier than that asking price. No matter what he does in MLB from here on out -- on the mound or with his bat -- he'll always be an established star in Japan. That's what makes this one seem under-priced to me.

James Comey's testimony before the Senate judiciary committee today will be watched by millions live and sound bites from what will be a historic day in Washington, D.C., will be heard for years to come no matter what happens.

A year ago, not many people would know the name of the now-former FBI director but with all that's happened since then there are plenty of hot takes no matter what one's political leaning might be. And in that time, his cardboard appearances have slowly added up via two products, Topps' ongoing Garbage Pail Kids/Wacky Packages lines focusing on "Trumpocracy" and the "Disg-race to the White House" and the politically focused Decision 2016 trading card release that has an updated Series 2 set arriving on Friday. 

Unlike the Donald Trumps and Hillary Clintons of the world, though, Comey's cardboard isn't all that plentiful ... keep reading.

Hillary Clinton's selection for her vice-presidential running mate appears on a handful of trading cards, but you'll have to go find some old packs of football cards to find his first one.

Virginia Senator and former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine first appeared on cardboard back in 2009 when Topps released an Allen & Ginter-styled football set called Topps Mayo.

There, in the 2009 Topps Mayo United States Governors insert set you'll find him nestled between James H. Douglas and Christine Gregoire in the 50-card set. These cards were among a few mini insert sets with cards found six times per hobby box.

That makes this a bit of a tough pull, but it's not his only cardboard.

We've had plenty about Decision 2016 trading cards here on The Buzz, but if you're a politically inclined collector chasing the cards of this year's final four candidates -- the Presidential and VP players -- then you might be happy with Donald Trump's VP pick.

Collecting Mike Pence will be much easier than Trump or Hillary Clinton -- and maybe easier than her forthcoming VP pick, too.

If you tore into boxes of Decision 2016 trading cards, you may have a reason or two to look back at those cards for some rarer variations that may carry more value than you thought.

Why? The makers of the landmark political product have revealed the short-prints in the product and relative scarcity of the parallels for many of the cards. In addition, per-box odds for retail and hobby have now been disclosed, giving collectors a better idea of what's rarer in the product or what they should expect in a box or case of Decision 2016 trading cards via either hobby or retail.

Interestingly, for example, the most-plentiful cut auto in the product is that of Donald Trump, while cuts with a red-foil frame are much rarer parallels for any subject, whether short-printed or not. (That means this Trump buyer probably got a bit of a deal.)

Also interesting? The shredded currency cards, which are now confirmed to be found one per case, have two versions with one much rarer than the other. Meanwhile, many of the inserts have rarer parallels -- with their relative scarcity now confirmed. One example? The Trump Under Fire cards with red foil like this one are the rarest finds.

Politicians have appeared on cardboard since the earliest years of trading cards -- you know, in packs of cigarettes back in the 1800s -- and they've appeared in countless non-sports, war and even sports sets of the last 30-plus years as collecting emerged upon the national psyche and flourished as part of the pop culture landscape.

But the new Decision 2016 trading cards arriving this week include something that we haven't yet seen in a political release -- the chance at autographs and more advanced "hit" cards along with a healthy amount of traditional cardboard.

In the midst of one of the most-tumultous political seasons in years, this is a product that offers a promising start for a perhaps-expanding trading card genre of its own -- and the potential for something more.

It already appears to be a landmark release, but don't just take Buzz's word for it.

"The idea of a set that captures that drama of an election – that is compelling," said Rick Klein, who is ABC News' Political Director and also a long-time baseball card collector. "I feel like it’s something that could start as a novelty project but catch on. You’d be surprised by how many political junkies are also collectors. People love pins, hats, signs. I’ve seen autograph-seekers at obscure conferences for senators most people could never name."

The creator of Decision 2016 trading cards offered more details about the forthcoming product this week with a number of formats that the political product can be explored.

Why? Because it's been a tumultuous political season so far.

“There is unprecedented interest in this year’s presidential election,” said Brian Wallos, who created the set. “With Donald Trump joining the race and other non-traditional candidates campaigning, we felt that creating a high-quality collection of presidential trading cards was a natural. Not only can people learn from these cards and even make more informed decisions about whom they might support, but they will now have an opportunity to memorialize this historic election campaign."
