Day 2 of this year's National Sports Collectors Convention is over inside the Atlantic City Convention center and the preview night has come and gone, too.Now it's time for Day 3 as we near the weekend with a larger slate of signers and plenty of action. You'll never know what big items you'll see (how's that box up top look?), and there will be items you'd never imagine finding because, well, you probably didn't know they existed.
Keep reading for more and to see a gallery that will grow throughout the day as the doors open shortly.

"They are who we thought they were" may be a sound bite he's remembered for, but Dennis Green also will be remembered as being what many thought he was.
A pretty decent football coach.
The former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals leader died from an apparent heart attack on Friday at age 67. He last coached a decade ago with the Cardinals, going 5-11 to cap his 13-year coaching resume with 113 wins and 94 losses.

One of the NBA's most-successful big men and under-rated talents has retired.
A member of the San Antonio Spurs for 19 seasons, Tim Duncan was a five-time NBA champ, a two-time league MVP, a three-time Finals MVP, a 15-time All-Star and his next stop will undoubtedly be the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
He averaged 19 points, 10.8 rebounds and three assists a game for his career and retires as the Spurs' career leader in games, minutes, field goals, rebounds, blocks, points and plenty more. He's also a guy who's not signed autographs much at all in recent years as he's turned down impressive amounts per sig from card companies.

The WNBA is in its 20th season and one of the best all-around players in the history of the league, Swin Cash, announced on Tuesday that this will be the final campaign of her 15-year career.
"This game I love saved my life after a cancer scare. It’s provided for me and my family. It’s given me championships in college and the pros," she wrote in a piece for The Players Tribune. "And it’s asked me whether or not I had the tenacity and perseverance to compete with and against the greatest athletes in the world, and take home the prize of prizes: an Olympic gold medal. Twice."
She's one of the top players statistically -- yet she's got very little cardboard for fans to chase. Her story is not a unique one as WNBA cardboard has been largely limited to a small boxed set each year since 2009.

He's been a legendary hitter in MLB since arriving in a Seattle Mariners uniform back in 2001, and he's now 42 years old and on a tear with 10 hits in his last three games for the Miami Marlins.
He's Ichiro Suzuki and he's just 40 hits away from the 3,000 Hit Club as a major-leaguer. (Throw on 1,434 hits in Japan and, well, that's a career mark even Pete Rose should appreciate.)
Even if you're a deep-pocketed collector, chasing Ichiro cardboard isn't easy. He's been in high demand since his legendary Rookie of the Year/MVP season and there's plenty of cardboard from that year alone. There's also been plenty since. And there are also plenty of collectors from around the world who are watching his cardboard just as intently as they are watching the box scores right now.

Focused basketball collectors on the Blowout forum recently noted an uptick in high-grade 1986-87 Fleer stickers, which makes sense since that landmark release is a heavily collected set.
But the sale of a Michael Jordan sticker from two years later -- a set that's much easier to find -- might spark even more interest as a PSA 10 copy of an 1988-89 Fleer MJ sold for big bucks Tuesday night on eBay.

She was a bodybuilder, a bodyguard, a pioneering women's wrestler dubbed "the ninth wonder of the world" who won men's championships, a Playboy model and, ultimately, someone who battled demons for years after leaving the wrestling world.
She was Joanie Laurer, aka Chyna, and the former WWE star died Wednesday at age 46.
"I just heard the tragic news that @ChynaJoanLaurer has passed," wrote WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon on Twitter. "She was truly a pioneer in our industry, and she will be missed. #RIPChyna."

The recent arrival of 2015-16 Fleer Showcase hockey cards from Upper Deck included a mix of styles from the rich history of 1990s Fleer cards applied to the ice.
Like past years and other sports, the Precious Metal Gems cards have captured the attention of buyers on eBay with the card of Connor McDavid above fetching a pretty penny, despite not having one dollop of autograph ink or a jersey swatch anywhere on the card.
How much did it sell for?

Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's the fourth grading diary here on The Buzz ...

It was his last rodeo after all.Peyton Manning's 18-year NFL career that includes five MVP awards, two Super Bowl rings and more touchdowns and passing yards than any other quarterback in history comes to an end on Monday in Denver when he's expected to announce his retirement.
Manning is among the most-available and most-collectable quarterbacks in the history of the game -- he's also one of the most-valuable ones, too. Rather than rehash his Rookie Cards or priciest gems (there are plenty of both), here are seven basic ways to collect the legendary quarterback beloved in Indianapolis, admired in Denver and made "Omaha" a bit more famous.
Elton Brand returns to NBA to mentor Jahlil Okafor -- and perhaps spark some new Duke cardboard

Way back in 1999, Elton Brand was a star center for the Duke Blue Devils -- a center from tiny Peekskill, N.Y., who was about to make a big impression as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Fast-forward to today and the former Chicago Bull is coming out of retirement to join the NBA's worst team -- the Philadelphia 76ers, owners of a 3-33 record -- to help mentor another former Blue Devils star and first-round pick, Jahlil Okafor. Okafor, of course, has had issues off the court this season while also picking up the NBA game quickly. It's a match made in Blue Devils collecting heaven.
"He's not unlike most 20-year-olds you probably know, and he's definitely not at all different than most of his fellow players," Brand wrote in a piece for Sports Illustrated's website. "... if camera phones were around when Brad Miller, Ron Artest and I were Jahlil's age, we might've been banned from the league altogether, never mind suspended for a few games."
So, what about Brand on cardboard?

He's a real-life Crash Davis and just like the big-screen journeyman the career of former big-leaguer Mike Hessman is over.
If you don't know Hessman, it's OK -- you're probably like most of us. You might have one of his baseball cards long forgotten in a box somewhere -- from back in the days when he was a rookie for the Atlanta Braves and a guy who finally got his shot after eight seasons in the minor leagues.
That was back in 2003, but he's still in the news now.
