The action is picking up as the clock is winding down for the finale tonight at Goldin Auctions with this 2003-04 Exquisite Collection LeBron James card already topping the $1-million mark with its premium.
There's about nine hours to go before the auction might end with more bids beyond the current 24, but even the current mark would make it the most-expensive basketball card ever sold as well as the priciest modern card in any sport, topping past $900,000-plus sales of key Mike Trout autos via Goldin.
The Runnemede, N.J.-based auction house has a number of other big-ticket memorabilia pieces and interesting items in its current auction. (Don't believe me? Hit that link and look at the first six items -- they're huge and don't make my list this time.)
Keep reading for a deeper look at a few more items ending tonight.

Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame status will not be a surprise when it's formally announced next week and it seems that this was almost a given if you read his original scouting report.
"MLB Shortstop. Blue Chip. A Yankee. A Five tool player will be a ML Star +5!!" it reads from back on April 8, 1992.
And it can be yours in the latest Goldin Auctions event with an opening bid of $50,000 -- and it's not even the biggest item up for grabs in the auction.

The Chosen One's jersey is on the auction block and it could fetch six-figures when it sells next month.
Seventeen years after LeBron James made his Sports Illustrated debut, the gold St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish jersey he wore for that photo and a game that night is being sold via Runnemede, N.J.-based Goldin Auctions.
"Few players transcend their sport and few collectibles transcend the industry," said Ken Goldin the auction-house founder. "When you combine those two elements into one item records are broken and that is what we fully expect with this historic high school jersey of the world's most recognizable athlete of this generation."

You may have seen the headlines, but here's the real scoop.
BlowoutCards.com was the buyer of the $107,010 PSA 10 grade Pokémon 1st Edition set sold via Goldin Auctions this weekend, a sale that generated headlines from around the world -- not just the collecting world -- as the power of Pokémon is well-known. (And it's not just the cherished Charizard card leading the way here, either.)
Among the national news sites writing about this one? Newsweek, CNBC, TMZ Sports, Kotaku, Geek.com and CNET.
BlowoutCards.com is aggressively buying past Pokémon booster boxes and sets -- send an email pokemon@blowoutcards.com if you're selling. Keep reading to see this landmark set in its entirety and for Goldin's take on why the set is (and it is) a key release for a generation of younger collectors.

What if Mike Trout had been found on a 2011 Bowman Chrome Rookie Card autograph and it had a Superfractor parallel?
That didn't happen, but that dream cardboard scenario could have been close to reality if a new item in an upcoming Goldin Auctions event is any indicator.
It's a PSA/DNA certified Trout autograph -- that part's for sure -- on a card that looks like it could be a genuine Super from that year's release. It's a card that could have been printed by Topps but then never released when a signing couldn't be lined up in time.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A Chicago Cubs fan you know might need a loan.
That's because the fielding gloves used by Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo when they fielded the final out in the 2016 World Series to end 108 years of heartache are headed to the auction block on Aug. 1 in Chicago via a Goldin Auctions event coinciding with the National Sports Collectors Convention.
The opening bid? A cool $250,000 -- and they are being sold together.
Both gloves are signed and inscribed by the players to note their historic status with documentation from both MLB Authentication and Fanatics, which handled autograph signings with the championship team. The items have been seen on countless pieces of memorabilia given their significance, of course, with the Bryant glove seen on one of his 2017 Topps Heritage cards and both on the cover of Sports Illustrated being just two examples.
"Goldin Auctions is proud to offer at auction two significant pieces of history involving that monumental play," reads the auction listing. "Two truly remarkable pieces of baseball history offered in one lot."

What's the priciest piece of Los Angeles Dodgers memorabilia ever sold?
Well, according to Goldin Auctions, it's this 1963 road jersey used by Sandy Koufax, which sold for $429,625 on Saturday night in the latest event from the Runnemede, N.J.-based company.
"The rarity of Koufax game-worn memorabilia combined with its impeccable authenticity and the fact that it was from perhaps his greatest season when he captured the Cy Young, NL MVP Award and the World Series MVP makes it truly special," said Ken Goldin, the founder of Goldin Auctions, in a prepared statement. "This event also proved a vibrant market for Michael Jordan, Mike Trout, LeBron James and Tom Brady memorabilia with lots from all of them surpassing expectations."

The size 10.5 world champions ring weighs 77.3 grams and is identical to the one issued to the quarterback who led his New England Patriots to a shocking come-from-behind overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons a year ago. It's a 10 karat white-gold ring with 260 diamonds worked into the design.
It's believed to be the first ring or award tied to Brady to be hit the open market, and bidding opened at $20,000 -- and there's already action with the bidding.

It's a signature that helped change the world, and it's hitting the auction block in November.
It the autograph that adorns Jackie Robinson's contract to join the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 11, 1947, and it will be sold along with his Montreal Royals contract from 1945 at the museum that carries his name on Nov. 16 in New York City as part of a sale handled by Goldin Auctions.
"There are many documents on display in museums that represent seminal moments in history which forever changed America such as The Declaration of Independence, The Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation," said Ken Goldin, owner of Goldin Auctions. "But most historians believe that the integration of baseball with the signing of Jackie Robinson had as great an impact on America as any other moment in history.
"In fact, Martin Luther King called Robinson the founder of the Civil rights movement. Bringing the most important baseball document and the founding document of the Civil Rights movement to auction is an awesome responsibility and we are honored to help find them a permanent home for future generation to enjoy.”

A 20-page typed speech with hand-written notes by Martin Luther King Jr. is on the auction block.
The speech was delivered on July 6, 1965, in Chicago and included what is believed to be King's first public statement of a phrase that became known very well as part of the civil rights movement, "we shall overcome." In fact, that famous phrase ends the speech and is hand-written as part of a one-page addition to the prepared comments, which have been collected and bound.
Although it is not signed, the book is expected to sell for more than $500,000 via Goldin Auctions, which notes that other original past King speech manuscripts "have been appraised in the millions" and that the owner of the "I Have a Dream" speech has turned down $5 million.

There's no formal record book, but Honus Wagner and LeBron James are helping write it.
A pair of sports cards set sales records Saturday night in a Goldin Auctions event -- a PSA 5 (MC) copy of Wagner's iconic T206 baseball card and a modern-day Upper Deck creation from King James' rookie year also graded and slabbed by PSA.
"The demand for rare, high-grade vintage cards has exploded so we were confident that there would be some eye-popping results and new record prices established," said Ken Goldin, the founder of Goldin Auctions. "Every time one of these rare collectibles is offered for auction, serious collectors realize that it may be the last time for a long time. The booming market for high-grade rare trading cards, coupled with the limited supply, created the perfect storm for these remarkable prices."

The greatest copy of The Great One's greatest card will be sold later this summer.

"The fact that just one card has achieved this perfect grading is remarkable," said Ken Goldin, the founder of the auction house. "With the recent surge in interest among serious collectors for high-grade examples of Rookie Cards, we expect this Gretzky card to establish a new benchmark. The average sales for a PSA 9 Gretzky's has increased 600 percent in the past five years. If this card were to see a similar increase, it might become hockey's first $500,000 trading card."

A holiday card signed by President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy is a pricey and impressive piece, but the card presently up for sale via Goldin Auctions is even more unique.
It's from 1963, and it's one of only 15 known to have been signed sometime between Nov. 18 and Nov. 20 of that year -- down time between trips -- before his death in Dallas on Nov. 22.
The official White House cards for that year also were prepared with facsimile signatures but were not sent out. These signed cards were later discovered in the 1980s, according to the auction company.

Three years ago, the New York Mets privately sold a group of game-used jerseys from its first game following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The biggest jersey of them all has been re-sold -- so it can be displayed in public.
Two minority owners of the team paid $365,000 for the jersey worn by Mike Piazza during that memorable game so it can be displayed at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the Baseball Hall of Fame or the Mets museum at CitiField.
The jersey had been put up for sale via Goldin Auctions, which entertained offers to end an auction for the jersey early only on the condition it be displayed. The jersey's story landed it on the back cover of the New York Daily News today.

The event opened on Monday and runs until March 5 with five percent of the winning bid price of all lots going to the Museum. Among the items are a contract, a game-used bat, autographed baseballs and many other items related to the biggest name in the history of baseball.
