Topps National Baseball Card Day is this Saturday -- and it's a day to make some memories. That's exactly what collector/blogger Ben Aguirre Jr. got when he took his kids, Alexa (age 7) and Antonio (age 5) to South Bay Sports Cards in Sunnyvale, Calif., last year.

Today's the day -- it's Topps National Baseball Card Day.

Now is your chance at some free baseball cards that you won't find anywhere else other than at your local card shop. That's because today is an annual event that helps draw new fans into the hobby and gives veteran collectors some new stuff to check out.

There are six-card packs of NBCD baseball cards available free with a visit to a participating store, while a $10 purchase will yield a Mike Trout bonus card. The full checklist for this promotion can be seen here -- spoiler -- and it includes Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper and Carlos Correa autographs in some packs. We're a week or so away from the MLB All-Star Game and Topps will have plenty of cardboard for baseball fans to chase that commemorates The Midsummer Classic.

If the season ended today, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge would win the Triple Crown.

As a rookie.

With two homers on Sunday -- one a highlight-reel worthy 496-foot shot -- he upped his mark to 21 this season and that goes right alongside a .344 batting average and 47 RBI. Will the Triple Crown pace continue? Who knows, but the power is a barometer of baseball card potential and he's on pace to be among the best rookies in MLB history.

He's on pace to top the 40-homer mark and that's been done just one other time by a rookie. Even if he struggles some, by season's end he's likely to be very close to -- if not among -- the top 10 sluggers for most home run seasons by a rookie.

For the first time in his big-league career, the biggest-selling star in MLB is headed to the disabled list -- and it's with a torn thumb ligament that needs surgery.

With Mike Trout cards -- particularly his 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft autos -- trading at record highs, there are bound to be some worries. (Here's where it's being discussed over on the Blowout Forums.)

Could this be the type of injury that affects his performance now and in the future? Or is it something that gives collectors a chance to catch their breath and maybe land some big cards cheaper than they might have otherwise been?
