They've snuck their way into memorabilia cards in recent years making the actual items used on the field a bit more accessible, but one of the simplest traditions in Major League Baseball is nearly here.

Every big-league team wears green uniforms of some type during action on or around St. Patrick's Day and, of course, fans can get in on the action, too.

Is your 1967 Topps baseball card set complete? There's a chance it might not be now.

A funny thing happened when Buzz was working to confirm the various errors and variations in the 1967 card set in the weeks before the arrival of this year's homage, 2016 Topps Heritage.

There appears there could be a third version of Mike McCormick's card No. 86. When examining a group of 1967 cards, Buzz noticed a possible version (above) that's not cataloged anywhere among the various error & variations lists or noted on any population reports despite this set being 49 years old. It's a dramatically different version of the card for the Washington Senators pitcher who was traded to the San Francisco Giants, which is the reason for the variations to exist.

It turns out that this card is from the 1967 O-Pee-Chee set, though there is only one version cataloged there. Could a third version like this exist for the Topps card? Or are there two versions for O-Pee-Chee? Keep reading for the details.

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Kenta Maeda will be among the notable inclusions when 2016 Topps Tribute baseball cards arrive on July 13.

He was a star in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball with a triple crown, two nods as the top pitcher in the league and five All-Star nods.

But he won't be the only rookie signing on for the brand.

The first cards from 2016 Topps Heritage are starting to trickle onto eBay from retail boxes around the country and we're getting our first looks at new names and new faces in new places on the revival of the 1967 Topps design.

That means David Price with his Red Sox threads, Jason Heyward as a Cub and Rookie Cards of Corey Seager, Kyle Schwarber and a pairing of Aaron Nola and Michael Conforto for starters.

More than 18,000 big-leaguers have taken the field since the National League was formed in 1876, and today's the day that we can realize how unique some of those players are.

Today's Feb. 29 -- yep, it's a Leap Year -- and in 140 years of professional baseball at the highest of levels just 12 make the cut if you want a unique collection.

How? Only 12 big-leaguers were born on Feb. 29.

Either Bryce Harper or Mike Trout who will come to mind first if it's a debate of who's the best in the game, but sometimes it's fun just to look at the outrageous asking prices for these types of players' key cards on eBay.

The 2011 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs Refractor you see above leads the league among current auctions for Harper, checking in with an asking price of $24,999.99 Buy it Now. (No, seriously, go look.)

As goofy as that one might be, consider that the top Trout price -- one reportedly paid -- is even higher. That one's for a BGS 10 first Bowman Chrome Refractor auto with a serial number matching Trout's No. 27 on the field.

Topps Authentics has itself an Atlanta Brave.

Third baseman Hector Olivera was revealed as the next player who has signed an exclusive deal with Topps' memorabilia division. His signed jerseys, balls, bats, oversized Chrome cards and more will only be found on Topps.com as part of the deal.

“I am so happy to be working with Topps,” Olivera said in a prepared release. “I’m honored that they wanted me to part of the Topps family. It’s a great opportunity and I look forward to seeing the excitement on baseball fans’ faces.”

Topps' presentation at this year's Industry Summit included a few nuggets of info ... here are the most-notable items.

National Baseball Card Day will return this year. ... Topps Supreme baseball (above) will not be made this year. ... Topps Mint baseball will be a new addition to the lineup. ... Japanese star Kenta Maeda's autographs will be coming soon. ... Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft will have new builds when they arrive. ... No physical football card releases are being planned. ... Topps is still pursuing an autograph deal with Star Wars star Daisy Ridley. ... A high-end 65th Anniversary baseball product is in the works.

Leaf Trading Cards' presentation later in the afternoon included a rundown of the dozen hockey brands, eight package memorabilia brands and four football brands it intends to release this year. ... And Leaf has landed a non-sports big one -- it has signed Star Wars star Daisy Ridley to an autograph deal. Her autographs will appear in Pop Century.

Panini America's session is set for Tuesday afternoon.

What: 2016 Topps Chrome baseball cards
Arrives: Aug. 3
Box basics: Two autographs per 24-pack hobby box; five autographs per 12-pack jumbo box

What's buzz-worthy: This year's Chrome will have all the rainbow shades collectors expect, some rare veteran autos and two autos in every box, but that all might be trumped by the inclusion of 2015 Topps Chrome Carlos Correa Rookie Card autographs as the ink from the reigning American League Rookie of the Year will also be found here.

One of the challenges of collecting once you reach a certain level (either in years or cards) is how to keep yourself engaged in a hobby that can be full of obstacles.

Cost can be an obstacle. A limited number of releases including your player or team -- or scarcity of cards within those releases that are made -- can be an obstacle. A player retiring can be an obstacle. These aren't the only ones, either.

Once you have a certain number of cards for a player or a team, though, maybe it's time to consider adding to your collection in a few simple ways that are already around you. They can be just as challenging as cards, too.

We've seen plenty of politicians in our sports card sets in the last decade or so and even more here and there in various non-sports sets in the past, but one easy way to filter out the interesting cards from the mundane is to pick a niche.

That's ultimately up to your taste, but one niche that might appeal to more baseball fans on this Presidents Day would be cards that show a Commander in Chief actually on a baseball field throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.

We're less than a month away from the release of 2016 Topps Heritage baseball cards, the annual trek to the past that includes errors and variations as an added homage to the past year within the new product.

In advance of the March 2 release, Buzz was wondering about which mistakes are found in the 1967 Topps set -- that's this year's throwback model -- and what might be found. We don't yet have a checklist from Topps for this year, but that will be telling. Why? Stars from the past teams will often match stars on present teams in the set if an error/correction is in play.
