Fast Five is a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's perhaps something to ponder.

This time? Five areas of collecting perhaps overlooked by many.

VINTAGE-ERA PLAYER GAME-USED MEMORABILIA CARDS
With some card companies moving toward player-worn memorabilia cards for living legends along with the prospects a little more than in the past, I think game-used memorabilia cards of Hall of Famers and other notables from vintage years (for this argument I'd go pre-1990s players, but even moreso 1970s and before) seem like a safer buy with finds for all budget types. Some brands -- National Treasures, Prime Cuts, Classics, Museum Collection, Flawless and Immaculate Collection for example -- seem to ride older players' presences a little harder than others and you can find some gems. NT baseball for Hall of Famers, for example, is a prime spot for solid cards with bats a little easier than jerseys. For cheaper finds of players with fewer cards and still some nice possibilities, I'd suggest looking in this same realm at NFL and NBA sets ... some of those players simply may not have cards made in the future as the game-used items just aren't easy finds compared to baseball. (A glance at major auction house catalogs show that, too -- it can be nearly all MLB with other sports a seeming afterthought ... and that's where card companies often do their shopping.) Skepticism about origins of swatches have softened markets at times, but you'd be surprised what you can find out there under $100 ... heck even under $50 if shipping with a focus. Who should you pick up? Pick up who you like or who seems to be a good buy.

You should know all about him after his dominating 2017 arrival that ended with the National League Rookie of the Year award in his hands and a World Series run that came up one run short of a championship. Last year? Not quite as bold statistically but still strong with another World Series loss.

This year?

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger leads the NL with nine homers in his first 17 games -- that's 36 percent of his total all of last season, three more than the closest slugger in his own league and just one short of the only player in the game today tops him today (American League slugger Khris Davis). It's a hot start.

He appears on more than 3,200 different baseball cards but only 600 or so of those are certified autographs (Buzz is waiting on a redemption) and, while these numbers have all exploded since his arrival they're not that big in the big-picture as he's dominating once again.

It might be easy to overlook the New York Yankees pitching staff with all those young sluggers and other big boppers in the Bronx, but there's one arm clearly establishing himself this summer as he's in the midst of a career year and should have dominating season totals by year's end.

It's Luis Severino.

The 24-year-old right-hander is 13-2 with a 1.98 ERA this season -- tops in the American League and nearly the best in MLB right now -- and he's got 138 strikeouts in 118 innings atop that. His next victory will tie his career-high set last season and he's by far the top arm on the team -- Masahiro Tanaka is second with just seven victories this year.

And all this success should bode well for his cardboard, which can still be found with relative ease.

The Item: 2018 Topps Living No. 6 Nick Markakis
The Price: $224.51 so far (after 22 bids) -- see what it's up to now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The market for 2018 Topps Living Set cards is going a little wonky for some players on eBay with the lesser-knowns and lower-volume cards from earlier weeks like this one commanding way more than you might think. Markakis sold only 2,678 copies. It shows that the interest is there from set collectors who must have it all. On the flip side, guys like Shohei Ohtani sold more than 20,000 copies and Ronald Acuna more than doubled that. Ohtani has been a steady seller for some who have opted to get theirs graded but demand for Topps Living isn't just living it's thriving right now.

Want to collect someone who's very affordable and relatively solid on the field?

Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn made a case for himself on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys when he did something that's only been equaled or topped by three other players since 1982 when the sack became an official NFL stat. He had six sacks of Dak Prescott -- just one short of the NFL record -- and he wasn't boisterous about the big game afterward.

“I only have one move and it worked,” Clayborn told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I play the same way every game and it lucked out for me today."

The days of "something for nothing" are as gone as 45-cent wax packs in today's card world, but group breaks via outlets such as BlowoutTV can offer up some surprises.

Particularly when high-end products go lower-end in price -- or at least as low as they can go -- and that's where group breaks help out a lot.

One such example? The 2016 Panini National Treasures release, which is selling at less than half of its original price -- but with plenty of the big cards still in there as they were when it was packed out last year.

A funny thing happened recently when I ripped into a box of 2016-17 Panini Studio basketball cards.

I pulled cards of Joe Namath and Bo Derek.

No, really. My Derek was an autograph and my Namath was a patch card from a Los Angeles Rams jersey -- cards that I'd always eyed here and there but didn't expect to be able to land from a box of NBA cards.

How'd it happen? I pulled them via Panini Rewards points.

Three legendary cards in 2016 Panini National Treasures have a mistake -- and Panini America will fix them for a collector who finds one.

One is a NFL Gear Quads Laundry Tag of four legendary quarterbacks -- Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Tom Brady and John Elway. The mistake occurred during production as the card's labeling should indicate that some of the players' tags are from player-used and not game-worn jerseys.

"We are disappointed the error occurred, but it was truly an honest mistake with no intention of trying to mislead our customers," reads a statement from the company. "All other parallel levels of these cards do contain game-worn material, and this mistake occurred because the laundry tag reservations from the player-worn jerseys were missed when routing the cards for approval. Obviously, this is something that we will be more diligent about in the future."
