Soon, it will be time.

Packs of 2023-24 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama will be in collectors' hands along with C.J. Stroud Topps Now autos, pricey new Marvel and Disney Chrome boxes and even fresh shots at key Rookie Cards for Patrick Mahomes, Shohei Ohtani and Luka Doncic. Oh, and there can be prospect gems for Paul Skenes, Jackson Holliday and others on collectors' minds these days, too.

How? They're all part of the 2024 Blowout Cards Holiday Edition MegaMix (click here) which began shipping early -- this week instead of Dec. 18. It's a mixed-box case where, at worst, you'll land a mix of 20 blaster boxes but every third case ups the ante with some bigger stuff and a little less of the smalls.

Among the biggest finds? There's a wide array of bonuses from a $5,000 Blowout Site Credit or a $1,000 Blowout Site Credit as well as cases of Select NFL, National Treasures, Exquisite Collection and Topps Chrome, which is also the home to other pricey cards of the NBA's reigning Rookie Of The Year. (Cases and credits will be issued as a redemption scratch-off page as was done in past years and will ship free of charge once redeemed ... and you'll still get a number of blaster boxes, too.) If you don't land one of those, there's always a chance you might land hobby boxes of landmark Prizm years (you know, the years with That Mahomes Guy and Doncic) or power-packed Bowman Draft boxes among others. There's even some Dynasty Formula 1 to be found as well as plenty of Chrome.

NBA and NFL collectors will have new stuff to chase thanks to a new agreement between Panini America and Funko.

Funko Pop! Trading Cards will be on the way later this year beginning with basketball and football and "incorporate Panini’s globally popular Prizm trading card brand for both the NBA and NFL. Similar to the very popular Pop! Albums and Pop! Comic Covers," according to a company announcement.

"We are excited to enter into this collaboration with Funko," said Jason Howarth, Panini's VP of Marketing. "The success of our Panini trading cards in the collectible space along with the success that Funko is experiencing in the vinyl figure collectibles space makes this the ideal collaboration for sports fans and consumers."

Blowoutcards.com is very excited to be part of sports card history.

For more than 20 years, our team has worked with collectors and investors looking to purchase unopened boxes and cases, and early this year while working on The Modern Wax Fund we were fortunate to meet with some of the most-passionate collectors in the business.

The 1986-87 Fleer NBA sealed case of 12 36-pack boxes is one of the most-prestigious, rare and sought-after items in our hobby as it includes the Rookie Cards for Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone and many other Hall of Famers. We fielded dozens of calls for our opinion and assessment of value shortly after what many consider the "holy grail" of modern era sports cards was going to be available at auction.

One of those calls was from a collector that we have worked with in the past and we were given the green light to purchase the case on his behalf. We are pleased to announce that we were successful in procuring it for him via Collect Auctions for $1.79 million on Thursday night.

Based on perfect collation -- Fleer was relatively consistent in its delivery at that time -- the case should be home to roughly 40 untouched Jordans, which have sold for $100,000 in BGS 10 form and PSA 10s have pushed that mark to just over $97,000 via Goldin Auctions. The card is heavily graded but those top marks are elusive due to the printing, cutting and packaging of the era.

Blowout Cards is active in the market and looking to purchase unopened NBA boxes and cases. A few current examples include 1980-81 Topps, 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection, any Panini Prizm and also  Panini National Treasures releases.

It was supposed to be the opening day of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City, N.J., but with the life-changing coronavirus pandemic still in play across the country the show of all shows has been tentatively rescheduled for December. (And, realistically, that's likely in doubt.)

What might you have found on the show floor? Well, you can find stuff you might not even know exists -- or can even imagine -- and in the case of this throwback gallery of views from just two years ago you might wish you had a time machine.

Fast Five is a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's perhaps something to ponder.

This time? Five areas of collecting perhaps overlooked by many.

VINTAGE-ERA PLAYER GAME-USED MEMORABILIA CARDS
With some card companies moving toward player-worn memorabilia cards for living legends along with the prospects a little more than in the past, I think game-used memorabilia cards of Hall of Famers and other notables from vintage years (for this argument I'd go pre-1990s players, but even moreso 1970s and before) seem like a safer buy with finds for all budget types. Some brands -- National Treasures, Prime Cuts, Classics, Museum Collection, Flawless and Immaculate Collection for example -- seem to ride older players' presences a little harder than others and you can find some gems. NT baseball for Hall of Famers, for example, is a prime spot for solid cards with bats a little easier than jerseys. For cheaper finds of players with fewer cards and still some nice possibilities, I'd suggest looking in this same realm at NFL and NBA sets ... some of those players simply may not have cards made in the future as the game-used items just aren't easy finds compared to baseball. (A glance at major auction house catalogs show that, too -- it can be nearly all MLB with other sports a seeming afterthought ... and that's where card companies often do their shopping.) Skepticism about origins of swatches have softened markets at times, but you'd be surprised what you can find out there under $100 ... heck even under $50 if shipping with a focus. Who should you pick up? Pick up who you like or who seems to be a good buy.

It's not the most-expensive brand on the Panini America NBA new-release calendar, but it might be the one that generates the best returns for those collectors lucky enough to land the right rookie in the right color.

It's Panini Prizm and this year's edition, powered by No. 1 pick Zion Williamson, appears poised to be the biggest release of them all from a brand that's been around for seven years and has been known for big-money cards that don't even need autographs or memorabilia to get there -- just some shine and some shade.

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There's no doubt that it's this rookie who is the cream of the crop right now when it comes to Prizm Rookie Cards, but this one is here for you to consider one simple fact about tis pricey piece of cardboard. It came from a blaster. Now, if it could sell for that price, it's even more impressive ... but it's still a solid card. Only 24 others exist and only five others have been slabbed. This is the only 10 -- and there are only 21 other 10s for any Doncic Prizm card to get that grade. Fun fact: His Silvers have been slabbed 421 times and 216 of those have gotten a BGS 9.5. Just two got 10s. Meanwhile, his base RC has only been slabbed 301 times and there are six 10s ... more 10s than any other card.
