With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? One from deep in the box ... an MLB mystery revealed.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: Major League Baseball
The Events: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates May 2, 2014
The Results: Pirates 6, Blue Jays 5
The Attendance: 24,547 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh
The Price: $26
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot
The Ticket Stud (Key Player): Not sure there is one here for this game hobby-wise ... perhaps second-year Pirates SP Gerrit Cole who struck out six in a five-inning no-decision
Others: Andrew McCutchen (3-for-5), Pedro Alvarez (HR), Starling Marte (4-for-5, HR), Jose Bautista (2-for-5), MLB debut for reliever Casey Sadler.

What's Buzz-worthy: The story for this one was the Pirates winning the game off a pair of ninth-inning homers and there are a lot of reliable names in the box score here ... but this one isn't even as flashy as the ticket itself. To be honest, I pulled this one out of the ol' mystery box as I thought the design looked good for a still-busy Photoshop montage, but ... it turns out that Russell Martin didn't play in the game. Sums up this one. McCutchen's 846th-848th career hits happened here while it was career homer No. 93 for Alvarez and No. 19 for Marte ... not sure I'd bother with anything here more than a Martin auto, though.
Stud or Dud? Visually this one had a little potential -- a semi stud -- but ultimately this one is a dud unless somebody is collecting homers or something for hits from those three names. Visually I have seen far, far worse and there are some good names here.
