With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? One from the ice ... a rout with an injured star showing off and an early goal from a rookie.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: National Hockey League
The Events: Atlanta Thrashers vs. New York Rangers Nov. 12, 2009
The Results: Thrashers 5, Rangers 3
The Attendance: 18,200 at Madison Square Garden
The Price: $56
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot
The Ticket Stud (Key Player): Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk -- a goal and two assists ... with a broken foot
Others: Colby Armstrong (ATL), Artem Anisimov (NYR), Rich Peverley (ATL), Marian Gaborik (NYR), rookie Evander Kane with the fourth goal of his career (ATL), Brian Boyle (NYR), Maxim Afinogenov (ATL) (see a recap here) ... also was the 1,000th career game for New York's Donald Brashear.

What's Buzz-worthy: I'll readily admit I don't collect hockey these days -- can't do everything -- but with the postseason finale nearly upon us I figured I'd dip into the mystery box and present something from the ice and something that showcases one of the finer establishments in the sports world at the same time. This over-sized ticket is simple and bold and it would really be a nice piece to be signed by any player from the franchise in perhaps some silver ink above that slogan. The game didn't really go the home team's way, but, to be honest, I simply picked this one as I liked the visuals here. (I don't mind a high-scoring game, though.)
Stud or Dud? This one is a Stud visually and it's not alone from all of the Rangers tickets that I have seen from that season -- my mystery box had a few.
